DVD Audio or Dual Disc?

Are the discs labeled "Dual Disc" the same as DVD audio? I bought the new Chris Botti Dual Disc, but it would not play, said "Format" as the error code.... but it played fine on the CD side...

Thanks

No - Some of the dualdiscs that say DVD on them are for dvd - video. Some of them DO indeed play in the TL/RL; however, not all of them do. The Rob Thomas dualdisc is an example of one that DOES play in the TL.

To be compatible, I believe the label needs to explicitly state "DVD-Audio", with it's own unique logo. That's been my yardstick and not burned yet.

I'll look for that. It did say on the Table of Contents that it had DVD 5.1 versions of all the songs on the CD side PLUS the DVD video extras... hmmmm

Thanks.

If it has any video you can pretty much be sure it won't play in the TL. The Infiniti M35/M45 will play dvd video discs (only the sound - while driving - or if stopped the video will play also)

Actually that's what I thought I was getting on the TL....well at least the ability to play the audio tracks off of a video DVD.

There are numerous threads about DualDisc. Check out this thread on the subject and it also has other link references. All of the DualDisc's 2 channel side will play in the TL. It's the flipside that has folks dumbfounded. Don't be misled by the term "Entire Album in Surround Sound" as it does not indicate DVD-A. Chances are it will be DVD-V. The DVD logo on the back cover will either say "Video" or "Audio". VP911 mentioned the Rob Thomas disc ... it displays the DVD logo twice, one with Video and the other with Audio. Another item to look for is the term "Advanced Resolution Surround Sound" which usually indicates DVD-A.
