Difference between DVD-A vs DTS format
Purchased Queen's Night at the Opera DVD-A, and Sting's Brand New Day DTS. Both disks work great in the TL, but when I tried to play them on my home DVD player, Toshiba SD-4900, it played the Sting's DTS disc perfectly with the surround effects, but could not play Queen's disc. It recognized the Queen disc as a DVD-A, but didn't want to play it. Manual says it will play DVD-A discs. Wondering what the hell the difference in formats is.
Noticed the same thing occurs with the Eagle's Hell Freezes Over vs. Fleetwood Mac's Rumors. The case specifically mentions DTS and DVD-A respectively.
Is there a slight difference in the encryption of these formats. Obviously, the TL plays them regardless. My neighbors are I starting to think I'm crazy sitting in my car listening to these discs.
Thanks

It's not really about encryption but just the format of the data itself. Your home DVD player is capable of decoding DTS music but is not capable of decoding DVD A music. If you had an early dvd player, it's likely it couldn't even decode a DTS cd. This doesn't mean that all new DVD players will decode DVD A however and those players usually cost more than standard DVD players.

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize a DTS disc was actually a CD with a bunch of data compression while a DVD-A is obviously a DVD. I noticed the sampling frequencies are different for the two different formats; I had it set for 24kHZ instead of 96kHz, that's probably why it did not play.
