Converging '06 TL stereo with '07 for AUX, mp3 support

Got me a '06 TL last weekend, gotta say i love this car coming from my '97 Integra Ls/Vtec. Anyway, i want the AUX into ability and not looking to add the USA spec or anything like that. What i want to do is get the '07 TL stereo bottom half (since i have nav) ...

Question 1: Is the difference of the '06 and '07 TL with nav stereos bottom half where the AUX input comes into play?

Question 2: Ive read the '07's had the little AUX input where you hook up your 1/8" cable for ipod and such in the armrest console, correct?

Has anyone attempted to do this?

This would be a pretty cool project to look into.
I'm willing to participate in the adventure.

Ive been doing lot of checking with the part numbers and actual wiring and think this will work. Only issue i see is the radio code for XM radio possibly changing, if the actual code is stored in that until itself.

Why not just buy an I simple adapter?

Because reading the reviews and seeing how the Hon2y (i think) works not really happy with it. Would rather just have a aux input for 1/8" cable and aux mode on the stock stereo.

You would have to check the wiring pinouts VERY carefully. With the 07 and up TLs having mp3 support and Pro-Logic II, there could be some extra wires that you would have to check. If you've checked the wiring, and they're exactly the same, then go for it.

I have an 06 that was non navi that i converted to the 08 navi with the mp3 radio and aux input.. the radio connector and antenna connectors are different. u can get an adapter for the antenna. the wiring u have to do some depining of the original 06 radio connector and pin into the 07+ radio connector. You will also need the aux connector harness and will have to pin those wires into the 07+ radio connector. Be a good idea to get the 06 and 07 wiring schematics etc...

Yeah im going over it carefully. With the pro logic II and mp3 support all those are internal processes and shouldn't have any additional wiring. The only difference should be the AUX input

How do people with 07 and up units get to the AUX input, is that a screen option or what?

you know that the isimple has an additional aux input right? with left and right rcas which is better then just the one aux in? AND the ipod connection too.. You activate it WITH the radio controls..

Just seems cheaper and easier to go that route.. especially since you dont really care for the ipod control.. which is what SOME people have issues with..

Then again, if your going with the 07+ radio may as well just add the oem aux. I installed mine in the center console similar to factory but further to the right. then under the acc plug i drilled a hole to run my wires thru for my iphone etc. then used a rubber grommet to fill in the hole. You cant even see it once you open the arm rest. Either way let us know what you decide to go with.

That was/is my original plan and install it pretty much where you just described.

Thats what i have and it'll work (more than likely) as long as you get the lower radio half from an 07 with navi....

Done some more foot work. But nothing notable as of yet, the lower half of the HU would have to be changed and the re-pinning of one connector would need to be done. And the XM subscription would have to be changed to the new number

Haven't had a whole lot of time to tackle this

Well, replacing the bottom can't be too difficult (minus the cost) and transferring XM subscription should be fairly simple (my original radio became inop and replaced the unit, please transfer without any interruption.) Probably the most difficult would be the pin out?

the pin out would be the biggest issue i see. Aside from finding a lower half thats in great condition and not $300

member psheu tried it and it didn't work out that well. He redid the pins for the radio and then got a VERSION error on the navi screen. You have to remember that the radio is tied directly to the navigation system, so you would need to upgrade the whole nav system to the 4.xx system as well!

It's much easier to get a USASPEC or Isimple, it activates the CD-C mode on the radio which is basically an aux input.
