Compustar Remote Starter Question
I just had a Compustar Remote Starter installed (Model 2W900FM-AS) and it is almost perfect. 3000 foot range, very secure alarm, and a cool lighted two way remote telling me the status of the car. The responsiveness is very good too. No significant lag.
Unfortunately, the installer did not hook up the "Aux 2" button to unlock the trunk like I thought they would. They offer this, but want to charge me for the extra labor. I'd rather do it myself and save the money.
Can someone tell me how I'd set this up? I have the TL Service Manual, so getting inside is not a problem. My only problem is determining how to get the Compustar device to connect to the trunk unlatch trigger.

The trunk unlatch trigger in the TL requires a +12V signal. There is no wire in the car which can accept a ground pulse to pop the trunk. The output of the Compustar is a ground pulse, so you have to convert it to a +12V pulse using an automotive relay.
If you don't know how to do that, here is a link which explains it perfectly: http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page1.asp
The wire you have to tap into is directly at the trunk pop switch in the driver trim panel underneath the steering wheel. Use a meter to find out which wire goes to +12V ONLY when pressing in the button. That's the wire you want to tap into. It's quite simple to do.
I suggest you solder all connections, but that's just a suggestion.
Good luck!
