They should make one for the sticky clutch also that a lot of people experience, and no one seems to know how to resolve the issue.

Added myself to the list, back in August of last year i noticed the HFL didn't work at all and was shocked when i felt the area surrounding the unit was HOT, even being turned off for around 10 hours overnight! Thankfully found information on how to disconnect it and i don't plan on putting one back as I have a BT45 bluetooth module i can call through.

You may want to run a search for a solution on this site if the clutch is bothersome.
1) Change fluid to GM Syncromesh
2) Consider pulling out the clutch delay/check valve.

Welcome to AZ.

What sticky clutch? Not sure I have heard that complaint in the 9 years I have been on the forum.

^ Not so much the clutch, but the pedal itself IMO. I have experience it from time to time. I already have done the GM fluid, SS clutch line, hybrid bushings, XLR8 DD Clutch/flywheel, and short shifter. My brother and dad said the same. I haven't had time to look under but seems to me the pedal just needs some lubrication.

Yeah sticky clutch/pedal. It's basically the pedal that gets stiff or it grabs really low when driving aggressive

It's a shame it had to come down to a lawsuit.

I have a 2008 TL TypeS (first owner) and I'm on my 3rd HFL unit.
I would have disconnected the battery if it wasn't a Stick shift.

Nice timing, the TL wouldn't start this evening. I had to jump it, so it'll be going to the dealership tomorrow.

it's not lube. It's a bad/wearing pressure plate.

2008 tl s hfl

I am glad I found this community with the same HFL problems that I have encountered. I am the 2nd owner. I bought the car in Sept of 2010 with 19,000 miles at Santa Monica Acura. The prior owner was a lease holder. After having the car 1 year I had to replace the battery. I spend over 200 since I purchased it at the dealer. What a mistake. In 2013, I took a job position in Lancaster, California and once again the car began to have battery problems. The battery would die over night and I had to drive around with
jumping cables. Lancaster is super hot in the summer, I’m not sure if this contributed? I once again replaced the battery and bought a battery from ABC Batteries in Downey, CA in 2014. It worked fine for a while and again in 2016 began to have the battery issues. Husband got yelled a lot that year because of my car issues. He had the battery looked at and replaced again!!! and even had alternator repairs done and when all failed he then finally accused me of leaving the vanity light on the driver side on!!!!. This morning once again the battery is dead of course. I had to get a uber cause I was done with jumping that car. On my sad drive in the Uber I googled possible problems and here I am thankful and relieved I’m not the only one experiencing this. I love my 2008 Acura TL S it’s actually my 2nd one. :-) so I showed the hubby the YouTube videos to disconnect the freaking HFL and also showed him all the helpful posts. Now he needs to Disconnect that HFL and apologize for accusing me of leaving something on in the car.... CAR description: 2008 Acura TL S Black on Black. 142,000 proud miles, I need to re-upholster the two front seats, moon roof is not opening upward only opens up fully, headlights are foggy and I need a paint job. On my 4th battery since having my car. I’m planning on keeping my baby. And yes I signed up for the lawsuit!!!!

Thank you so much OP for providing such a priceless post! I just purchased my TL-S five days ago and was not aware of the HandsFreeLink issue whatsoever. I signed up myself to hopefully hear more on this case.

I just purchased an 08 TL Base and the HFL was disconnected in it. I plugged it in and got the dreaded "Booting" message, so I took it out and did the 10 minutes at 385 oven trick. It's been a few weeks and the HFL is working fine with no battery drainage issues so far.

A big thanks to those that posted that solution which worked, at least for me.

Not sure if this was ever replaced by the previous owner.

You could've bought it for a third of that: https://www.oemacuraparts.com/auto-p...er=83252sepa01

and installed it yourself

No offense but I don’t care. When and if it fails again within the next year it’s warrantied too.

But if you don't care, why are you signing up to participate in a class action lawsuit

I see the Facebook Acura 3G TL isn't the only place with kind of rude people.

You spend 400 dollars for labor and then join a class action lawsuit that will likely receive no traction as it hasn't in the last few years it was attempted. Sounds pretty idiotic to me. One could have 'recouped those costs' by DIYing.

But carry on

There is no relationship between the HFL and your NAV disc.

I started having issues with the HFL on my 2006 TL back in the summer of 2014. The dealer diagnosed the problem right away, but I didn't like cost to replace and had them disconnect it. I've been following along here on the Bluetooth Fails thread. (Thanks for all the great info all). Adding myself to the list now even thought my Transmission just died at 220k.

Does the parasitism ruin the battery over time? I drive my car nearly everyday so the drain isn't affecting me. But it seems worth doing if it ruins the battery.
