AT&T/Cingular 8525 ?

I know a few people have the 8525; and for those who do, have you noticed any problems?

My original question:

We have a very rigorous testing procedure and unfortunately, the HTC 8525 did not pass our testing for compatibility with HandsFreeLink. There were too many issues with the phone. Specifically, we found that the phone did not hold it's pairing, and did not have the ability to transfer audio. We consider these basic features and due to this fact, we unfortunately failed the HTC 8525 for compatibility with the HandsFreeLink system. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Please refer to our list of approved phones at www.handsfreelink.com when determining which phone to purchase. You may search by carrier or manufacturer for this information. By selecting the phone of interest to you, will bring you to a matrix of features that the phone will or will not support. Supported features will be noted with a green check mark, and failed features will be noted with a red "X."

I then emailed HTC (they make the phone) and asked what the difference was

Bluetooth wireless technology has different versions 1.0 to 2.1.
HTC 8525 has Bluetooth version 2.0 and 8125 has Bluetooth version1.2. These can be paired up with the device having the same BT version.

Unfortunately, we do not have any update on if Acura TL Bluetooth is compatible with 8525 or 8125, as we have not tested our devices with it. 8525 with WM6 is still not available. We manufacture service providers branded devices as per their specifications.

Please contact AT&T for any testing facilities, as these are AT&T branded devices.
Tim, I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.
You can unofficially get the official version of Windows Mobile 6 for the 8525 now; i'm curious to see if there are any functionality changes and if the 8525 is compatible while running WM6; based on the few 8525 threads before it seems like it already is compatible.. Except not from Acuras point of view.. so I guess overall my question is: 8525 users, how well does your phone work with HFL in the TL? What version of bluetooth is the HFL unit running? 1.2 or 2.0 ?

I currently have the new AT&T 8525, but also had the Cingular 8525. I didn't have a problem pairing either phone or never had a serious issue with the HFL. About once a month I need to disable & enable the bluetooth on my phone when I start up the car because it sometimes fails to recognize it. I noticed it does this when I havent done a hard reset on my phone for quite some time.

Also, you might want to try out this program called HTweakC for the 8525. You can download it & adjust some settings for bluetooth.

In regards to your question about type of bluetooth 1.2 or 2.0 is the HFL running. I think you meant what type the 'phone' is running, right? Well I have 2.0 on my phone.

Hi Timmah,

Can you send me the specs on the firmware version of your phone? Are there any special utilities you're running? I have the 8525 and all I get is the phone icon on my 2007 TL (w/ NAV). Is there some step in the setup process that I'm missing?

Thanks,

Gabriel

I'm running Windows Mobile 6 - Windows Mobile 5 by default will not send battery/signal info - you have to use the jetware extension w/ WM5

Version info:

M 05
S 04
B 06
D 3.57
R 1.48.00.00
G 32.71.7020.20h

where did you get WM6 for the 8525? I constantly have to repair my 8525 back to the car every time I leave and enter. I would like not to do that. Thanks

The compatibility charts at handsfreelink.com aren't always accurate, neither is the info you get always accurate when you call them.

I have the Verizon XV6600, an HTC Pocket PC phone running Windoze Mobile 2003SE. The listing for this phone at handsfreelink.com says it cannot pair, but I've been using it successfully now for the last year and a half. I just can't display signal strength nor battery power.

Ah, that's the difference. I'm not running Mobile 6, I'm still on 5. Did 6 come on your phone or did you download it? I can't find any link to download anywhere on the web and ATT/Cingular is saying it's not available yet.

^^^ The warranty is only for 1 year; and you can't get phone insurance for it, and since it's software you can pretty much always go back to the OEM ROM

The one I use is the actual WM6 rom from HTC to Cingular; doesn't require a CID unlock or any hacking.

I have the ATT 8525 and it works "ok". The major problem that I have is when I initiate a call from my phone it says that the HFL is working and active but I don't hear the phone ring in either my car or the phone. Once the person that I'm calling answers the audio is transferred to the phone and I have to manually transfer it back to HFL, this is very annoying and Im afraid of getting in an accident so I have reverted to using a HF headset.

I have a Cingular 8525 that was upgraded to the official WM6 rom (not the unreleased version that someone had on here). Sometimes when I start the car, the HFL does not recognize the phone. I just reset the phone and it works. Most of the time I don't hear the ringing but it connects through the car. When I start the car when i'm on the phone it switches back to the phone.
