Chasing Navi! (Parts and likelyhood question)

Ok aside from the Kevin Smith reference in the title, I am trying to get some information regarding the components for a DIY navi install.

Right now it looks like I can chase down a screen, dvd-rom, and antenna for all around 1K. I want to buy the wiring and mounts from the dealer because frankly it will be cheaper than asking these guys to pull the wiring from this wreck.

Even though I have read through all the DIY threads regarding the install I never really found any information regarding price and what model year they installed versus what model year they were installing it on to.

So that being said here are my questions.

Have there been any changes to the navi system from 2004-2006 which would cause me any headaches in my install in my 2006 TL?

What are people typically paying for all of this stuff? Is 1K a good deal?

Anyone in Alabama interested in trying to do these at the same time? I figure if there are others in the south who want to try this, having two people working on it at the same time might not be a bad idea. Lessons learned and all that.

Thanks in advance.

Clint

Thanks jptl04!

I saw your thread and it definitely inspired me to give this a shot myself. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get all the components for? Would you consider ~1k for the guts and brains a pretty decent deal?

i got everything for about $1,700. the price of 1K is a good deal if everything is in good condition dvd-rom unit is over $2,000 alone from dealer. if i were you i'd ask, how much for the wire harnesses? if your going to buy them new they are very expensive you'll need three, your looking at about $700-$800 for all three. if your going to do an install like i did, getting them from a junked car would be worth it. since you're going to have to seperate the wires, and you'll get them much cheaper
