Can I set my navigation system to NO voice prompts?
I want to have the option to set my navi to no voice prompts at all. I know I can set Low, Medium, and High prompt levels, but I want to have absolutely no verbal directions - just the visual cues on the screen.
I thought I read that somewhere on this forum, but I can't find it now!
Thanks!

My '05 has the option to turn off the voice in the Nav "Setup" menu- tab 3.

"Guidance Prompts
While you drive to your destination, the
system displays and announces
guidance prompts for your next
maneuver. This setting allows you to
adjust the number of guidance prompts
before each maneuver. The settings
Min, Normal, and Max are described
below. The factory default is Normal,
so you can adequately prepare for the
next maneuver. If you wish to change
the number of guidance prompts, select
your preferred setting, as shown in the
following table"
And here is the answer to my question, also on page 81:
"NOTE:
To temporarily turn off voice guidance
prompts, select Off for the “Volume”
setting in Setup."
Note, this is just the volume for voice prompts, and not the audio system in general. COOL!
Actually, the 10,000 question is - when set to 'off', does it still mute the main audio when it 'would have' spoken ...? I will try it today. There are times when I'm on a long drive and I use the nav just to see how long it's going to take me to get there. I don't need to be told every 10 minutes, 'stay on ...' while I'm listening to music. But - if the audio is still muted, that would be almost as bad. Let's see how it goes today!

Keep Right Except to Pass
Steerpike, the point you raise is especially notable when you're playing a DTS or DVD-A disc where the vocals come through the centre channel (the Eagles' Hell Freezes Over is an excellent example—you won't hear the vocals worth a damn when the Navi lady says something). I keep meaning to check this out and I keep forgetting. Let us know what you find; I was planning to drive my other car today since it hasn't been driven in about two weeks.

Sorry, I forgot to follow up with the results of the setting above. YES, when you set the volume to 'off' as described above, you get NO voice prompts, and NO INTERRUPTIONS when you listen to music while using the guidance system - so it's cool! I use this a lot now - I turn the volume off when I'm on a long journey, and just want the 'time to destination' and/or reassurance that I'm on the right track, then turn on the volume as I get close to destination so I don't have to look at the display.
