Is Blitzsafe the easiest DIY AUX IN?

I have a 05 Navi and I don't care about loosing XM. I want to know if installing Blitzsafe - HON/AUX DMX V.2 the easiest way in terms of DIY AUX IN. I have an Ipod w/ video which I want to hook up. I want the best sound quality possible and don't care about integration. I've been reading the forums all day but I couldn't find a complete install guide of Blitzsafe. I've never done anything with my car but I would like to try. Is it doable for someone with no experience?

I understand that I need to take things apart. Does it mean that I need to order a service manual from Helm?

I will probably use the Belkin Auto Kit for iPod w/ Dock Connector for charging.

I know that I also need an AUX cable, and recommendations? The only one I know is XtremeMac Auxiliary Audio Cable for iPod

Anything else I need besides the 3 mentioned above?

What about grounding? Do I have to do that? If yes, how?

I prefer the AUX IN over Ipod Interface in case I switch to some other MP3 player later on.

Sorry for so many questions, but any help is highly appreciated!

I am looking at a similar solution, but I want to keep the XM as well. The Blitzsafe - HON/AUX DMX V.2 is $99 for one input, you could use the Pie X-3 for 59.95 + Pie HON03 wiring harness 29.95 that would give you 3 inputs in case you want to add other sources (like DVD) later. Then you could use the Blitzsafe UII Universal iPod interface for $59.

Seems like the Blitzsafe UII doesn't work with my Ipod G5 (ipod w/ video). Any idea? jjh1234, have you done the installation yet? Which panels needed to be removed?

It may be that they have not updated the specs yet. I believe the bottom dock connector is standardized. No, I have not installed this yet. I don't have the $$ right this second since I just added 2 12" MTX Subs a few weeks ago. I'm still waiting to hear from others on this as well. You will probably have to remove the aluminum strips and the entire radio nav unit. A fair amount of work. Check out the other thread on this

Wow, this is so confusing. I have been lurking around this forum for 2 months trying to figure out how to hook up my (non-iPod) mp3 player to a 2006 TL w/NAV. I plan on buying within a month or two, but to be honest, I don't really want the car if I can't hook up my player to it.

So, let me get this straight: The Blitzsafe adapter will plug in where the XM plugs in, but will disable the XM? Then what are the two white plugs for? Is there any wire splicing/cutting involved?

The PIE adapter + wiring harness will allow 3 inputs including XM pass-through, but you have to cut wires to do so? That scares me a little.

I just want one aux input (but I'll take three if it means I don't have to cut wires), with or without XM (preferably with, but I don't plan on keeping it after the 3 months). I'd rather have someone else do it, because I don't trust myself. Will any shop/car audio place know how? I'd rather not have them splice/cut wires in my brand new car, either. Is this asking too much? Has anyone done any of these aux input installs or had them done? I'm driving myself nuts trying to figure all this out.

If you don't want to tear apart your new car, most car audio places could probably do it. Just ask them if they install a lot of aux input converters. Even your local Best Buy might be a good place because they are fully insured, so if they fubar your car at least it will be fixed. The PIE adapter only requires a switched +12v input which should be readily available at the rear of the radio. Keep checking the link below for details.

Keep us posted on what you find out about iPod G5 compatibility with the Blitzsafe UII. I was thinking about picking one of these up. I thought the dock connector was standard across just about every iPod. Anyone else tried this with a G5 iPod?

I would have agreed with you before I started talking with the head installer at my local BB. He is a real smart kid that has totally tricked out his ride. Maybe it's an isolated case, but I would trust him. At least they are insured because the small shops are not. I would want to meet anybody working on my car first.

I guess I am still looking for the most elegant solution as well.

What solution provides:
Use of iPod while connected.
Best integration with displays/controls (not necessary though if iPod control remains)
Preserves use of XM

?

Although nobody has installed it yet, I believe this is the best plug and play way (only one wire to splice) to add iPod (or any audio) and keep XM as well. See thread below.

I talked to an installer and he ranked the product quality in this order:

1.) SoundGate
2.) Peripheral
3.) Blitzsafe
4.) P.I.E.
5.) PAC

I am giving up the DIY idea and will have an installer install the Blitzsafe AUX adapter and the Harman/Kardon Drive + Play for me.
