Anyone Swap For An "Improved" v710?

Motorola recently re-issued the v710 with fixes to the camera (not crooked anymore), earpiece volume (louder), and keypad height (no more screen scratches).

Has anyone made the swap yet for the 'new and improved' v710? I ask because before I do I want to make sure that all Bluetooth syncability with the TL is intact and that I don't lose any features (like emailling jpeg's or using videos of the TF card, etc.).

Thanks.

BJ

BJ, picked up the "new and improved" V710 on Wed and had no pairing problems. However, it still has the old firmware (8700_01.30.BF). No battery and signal strength on display. Hopefully they will have a new firmware upgrade to fix the problem (as stated in other posts). There was a post saying the upgrade was 8700_01.3E.52 and haven't heard anything about it since. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Truth is, my camera isn't crooked and I am not sure if my earpiece volume is loud or not.......my screen is all scratched up due to the keypad rubbing in my pocket. I've never had a phone this good at keeping/making calls and the battery life is terrific so I don't want to press my luck when there may be no practical reason to do so.

Swopped mine out last week & had pretty much the same experience (as above). I do like the new raised edging around the key pad,,,,no more scratches. Now if they would only come out with the software update that I've been hearing about, we'd be all set.

Nukeman,
Your Verizon store just gave you the new model? No questions or hassle from them on their end? How did you go about getting the newer version of the phone?

Called inquiring about the availability of the software update and was told that it wasn't available yet but they had newer model 710's that had the new software and they would swop it out. Needless to say the software version is the same not the update, but I did get the new, slightly improved phone,,,,,oh well, still waiting.

Yea something is fishy about that... I will do that in a heartbeat if I can.. My phone was dropped a couple times so is not in perfect outside condition.. and I have scratches on the screen...

All I know is a month ago I went in to Verizon simply asking to see if they had a new software version secretly stashed away.. they practically kicked me out of the store wanting nothing to do with the phone... of course on my way out I saw that the V710 was no longer available.. probably because of the whole recall thing..

I went to the Verizon store at Dulles Town Center today to buy a new phone for my wife. While I was there I asked about fixing the "crooked camera" problem on my v710. They were familiar with the problem and said they are just swapping them out.

I got a brand new v710 right then and there. They transferred my phone book to the new phone, but I'm sure I will have to re-pair it to my TL.

Just an update:

First, I swapped my phone for one with a blue-dot under the serial sticker and it's much better. No scratches on the LCD screen, earpiece volume so loud it'll give you a headache, better camera.

Next, I did the Superdave flash and now the phone has the battery level and signal strength on the HFL and a whole bunch of new features too.

Great phone!

You guys that got the "new" V710, what is the hardware build number on the phone? It's located under the battery where the serial number is. It should say something like "EUJ" or "EWJ". Also, what about the model? Should read something like "V710 H/W 3.0"

I'm asking because I went into a verizon store tonight to get a new V710 and I mentioned to the guy that the new V710's should have a blue dot on the box. He basically refused to show me the box, said it wasn't policy or some bs to show customer's the boxes of phones they were going to replace. Does anyone know how to tell the difference between the old and new V710 by the info under the battery? Thanks for your help...

Goldglv, the box my V710 came in has the blue dot on the top panel where the barcodes and SNs are. At the end of the SN it has the suffix "EUJ". On the inside of the phone (after removing the batt) and just beneath the second set of barcodes is the model # with "H/W 3.0" on the end. There is another set of numbers on the same line preceeding the mdoel # and starts with DEC: followed by an 11 digit number. What it stands for, don't have a clue. Hope this helps. Maybe some of the other folks who have the V710 can confirm what I said. Hope this helps ya.

I have an original release date V710 with the new software hacked by superdave. It links perfectly to the TL with the battery and signal displayed. On the back under the battery is says ENJ and HW 3.0. the camera is a little crooked but with the new software the picture quality really is alot better. I'm just waiting for the stores around me to get a new one so I can get the straight camera.

I called my local Verizon store and spoke to the assistant manager. He said they had some of the "new" V710s in and he put one aside for me for 10 days. When I went in 5 days later, it was waiting for me. They transferred the data in 10 minutes. We held both the old phone and new phone up with the cameras on and the old one was tilting and the new one was perfectly straight. Volume is better, but still has the old software. I call them every few weeks to check for the upgrade.
