Anyone else have a radar/laser detector in their TL?
I have a valentine 1 & put it on my driver side visor, ran the wire over the rear view mirror & down to the concealed display which was optional. It's plugged into the socket inside the console. Since my rear windows are tinted dark you can't see it under the visor or even the power cord. I don't speed, but rather to monitor my speed. Laser is deadly, but I've picked it up from a cop getting a reading of a vehicle up ahead of me. Just wondering what detectors anyone else has? BTW a good friend of mine is a cop and although I have PBA cards they just don't work when you're out of state.

I just installed an Escort SRX radar detector/laser jammer. They dont sell em anymore so Ive been searching everywhere to try to find one- finally got a used one on ebay... I had the same thing in my old truck and then put it in my last TL, but it got burned up when the car did. I never got a ticket in the 4yrs that I had it in those 2 vehicles, this thing is badass. If I had to choose a windshield mount though it would definitely be a V1

I had an Escort 8500 X50 Blue for several years and recently updated/upgrated to the Escort 8500 X50 Black. Mounted to the right of the rearview mirror and hardwired to the fusebox (across the headliner and down the A-pillar)

I also have a V1 mounted in the AS1 line on the drivers side near the rear view mirror. I have it hardwired so all the wiring is concealed in the head liner.
I wired it to the power window lock switch so when I'm driving in a shopping center with lots of doors I can simply press the window lock switch and it'll cut off power to the V1 so I don't have to deal with the constant false alarms from the automatic doors.
I also have a hidden mute button that I also wired to the left side of the shift lever. Instead of reaching up on the unit to mute it, I simply press a small switch to mute it.

If anyone is driving on rte 287 here in north jersey watch out! There is laser being used all over by several towns on just a 12 mile stretch, this is the new cash cow for the towns. Mahwah is in the lead $$$. Two things I fear, instant on radar & laser.

I have the beltronics V955 and its a great detector. I got it on sale from Radioshack a few months ago was running a Escort 8500 before that. V955 has great range and has saved me many times. However for the last 4 weeks, I have been hit with laser constantly on 684, garden state, NJ turnpike.,etc....seems like more and more cops are using laser.
Why just last week I picked up my new Audi in Edison, NJ and on the way back to NY around morristown/parsippany I was hit with laser on 287 6-7 times within a 8 mile distance. Totally ruined the experience of bringing the car home. That same night I was hit with laser by a blacked out NY trooper on cross bronx, he got me for 74 in a 50. Let me off with a warning as he saw it was a new car with new temp plates and told me to "enjoy it".
Nicest state trooper I ever met btw.
Really need to invest in some jammers now.

They dont use laser much down south, but the last SRX saved me a ton of times when I did get hit with it. I just slow to the speed limit and press the mute button twice, that shuts off the jammer and they can read my speed... works like a charm. I would recommend escort for their customer service alone.
Has anyone used Escort Live- the app for smartphones?

I have a 9500ix....love that I can lock out all the false signals...upgraded from the 8500 x50 Blue...the Escort Live sounds good...but my detector is hardwired as well. I had a hidden mute button next to my steering wheel, but its stopped functioning recently and I am too lazy to replace the wiring...I will get around to it though.

I've had an Escort Solo S2 four about 4 years now and bought it mainly because it's battery powered (with option for hardwire) and could easily switch between multiple vehicles w/o the nuisance of the 12V/cig adapter. Haven't had the desire to upgrade since although the laser jammer features seem quite appealing.

I'm looking at getting one but have never had one and don't know anything about them. Are they difficult to wire if I don't want to use one of the cigarette lighter outlets?
Is this a decent one?
My budget would be under $200.
And what does it mean to "mute?" Do you get a signal that there's radar up ahead and you mute the device so they can't tell that you have one?

well think of it like this way:
the ones with GPS wont give you false alerts
most of the $100+ radar detectors have the same detection range
i honestly dont mind a false alert as I want something to slow me down....so when the alert signal starts building up i tend to slow down....else i ignore it....
also i didnt wanna spend a lot of $$$ on a detector....the Whistler XTR520 has never let me down....
now laser is different....as its a tag and bag kinda deal....laser scramblers are expensive....if you do that route....be prepared to fork out ~$500

I've had my V1 for 5 years and love it, had it for 3 years in my RSX-S then moved it over to the TL I've had for over 2 years now. Its mounted pretty much behind the rear view mirror but to the right a bit for it to see the rear. I have a mute button next to the seat warmer buttons and the concealed display as well.

Beltronics STi/STi Magnum/STi-R Plus
I have a very old Beltronics 645sti but it's close to 20 years old now. Redline and STi Magnum are very close to one another...I still can't decide which one is better.
Interesting that Beltronics devices are manufactured in Misssissauga, Ontario, CANADA where radar detectors are illegal to operate (but not to own) ;-)

You are better off not having a radar detector, than driving in a manner due to having a sense of confidence because you have a radar detector. Cobras are not good radar detectors.
Radar detectors that I would recommend are (from lowest cost to highest) Escort 8500 Black, Valentine One, Beltronics STi Magnum, Escort 9500ix, Escort Redline, Beltronics STiR+. The Escort and Beltronics radar detectors can be used with Escort LIVE, which includes a database of redlight and speed cameras. The Escort 9500ix has a database of redlight and speed cameras too.
The best radar detector for you depends ony our driving environment.
A stealth radar detector (one that isn't detectable by radar detector detectors) are only needed if you drive in Virginia or are driving a commercial truck. The only stealth radar detectors are the Escort 9500CI (not 9500XI), Escort Redline and the Beltronics STi series.
