Pretty cool. I was just wondering the other day about if you could make a dock with a slide in tablet. Security would be my big concern. Did you do all the fab work yourself, of have a shop do it?

Did it all myself. Started in April. I procrastinate. :D

Audio form the iPad goes to a modified Kenwood X996. The 996 handles BT phone and steaming audio. Plus running through the 996 allows me to keep the steering wheel controls too.

VERY, very nice!

Swoosh was looking to do this in his TL.

justnspace Nov 28, 2012 09:54 PM

when you say modified 996; whats done to it?

swoosh Nov 28, 2012 09:54 PM

Joe that is bloody sick....well done mah man....

I was looking into an iPad but the screen size was messing my plans...so started looking into a 10" tab but didn't wanna pay another $30 a month for data....so just installed a 6" screen and mirrored my phone to the screen....

I love the whole motorized motion....that is sweet...and how did u make that AC display work like that?

Nothing crazy. Just externally mounted a DC-DC converter to supply a 3A current for the USB input since the iPad needs 2A instead of the stock 1A. If I get bored I may look at messing with it more. But honestly, it does a pretty nice job as is.

That was a very detailed, time consuming, elaborate issue. J/K. I took apart the display and covered the center section with matte black 3M Scotchprint to cover up the clock since it would never keep time right once I pulled the factory nav drive out. It actually came out looking pretty good.

The size was a trick to deal with. It was tight-skies. Of course, had the iPad mini been out when I started, I probably would have used that.

Sweet!

qalexeon Feb 24, 2017 05:34 PM

HVAC controls still work?

When you removed the NAV screen, did you lose the HVAC controls? I'm looking to do mine but that's my biggest concern right now.

sockr1 Feb 24, 2017 05:42 PM

^^ remove the screen but not the brain and you'll be fine. There's a lot more recent tablet installs then this one.

qalexeon Feb 24, 2017 05:44 PM

Thanks! I'm new to Acurazine! Just got a 2nd hand TL. So i'm in the brainstorming phase.
