Thumbs up 2010 / 3.9 Orange Disk Update - 1st Impressions

I know I've bitched and moaned about the $185 price, being taken out of the way around in circles, not to mention the stealership service departments advising me to get the DVD update as they kept on claiming that'll cure whatever ails my navigation system, but this week, I finally bit the bullet.

The disk arrived today and I installed it immediately. Sure as shit, they were right!

I experimented with entering McDonald's, Home Depot, Shoprite, and Trader Joe's. And wouldn't ya know it, the system came up with the closest location instead of 100's or 1000's of miles away, and did it faster! 'Find Nearest Gas Station' took 2 seconds and was right on the money.

If I went off a route, Recalculating took less time. That bar zoomed across the top of the screen in a flash instead of crawling across like it normally does.

Seems like I finally have a navigation system that works the way it's supposed to. So, to those of you '04/5/6 Navi owners who suffer from an arthritic Nav system like I did, I highly recommend this update.

They finally got it right ............

Happy Holidays everyone !!

Thumbs up

Perfect. This makes me that much more willing to take the jump.

My whole idea reading all these Navi update threads was "if DMZ is sold on it, so am I".

And sold I am.

Merry Christmas, thanks for taking the time to let us know!

Sure. Swap the entire nav unit for the 06-08 unit.

I got the 3.9 and definitely noticed a difference in speed from my 3.40c disc. As for spoken street names, I don't really mind it much. I have the view set to side by side, or whatever it's called, that shows you the next 3 upcoming turns. I'm usually pretty aware of the next few turns coming up.

This is good to hear! Anyone else have feedback from the 3.9 update? I would like to hear what other features are new before coughing up the $185.

i had the 3.6 version for a while and it was horrible compared to the 3.9 disc i have now. It was worth the price to me if you really use your navigation system alot.

Good thing I didn't buy a used 3.5 or 3.6 disk off of ebaY to replace my original 3.3 like I was considering.

Hey DMZ, what kind of issues were you having with your Navi? I am having issues with the sound being garbled or muffled. Were either of those an issue with yours?

Folks, this thread is SPECIFICALLY for the '04/5/6 Navi, which uses the Orange Disk

And therefore pertains to the issues, problems, trials, and tribulations ONLY those of us with the '04/5/6 factory Navi system have been suffering and would understand. The '07's and '08's use the WHITE DISK, and what any of this has to do with '09 ....

if anyone who has this updated dvd can show a cell phone shot (or something) of this area at maybe 1/8 mile distance from the address of this shell station that would help me a lot:

105 W Lincoln Ave, Orange, CA 92866

thanks!

are you sure about that? i'm pretty sure the 04-06 navi doesn't have text to speech. meaning that it cant say things like turn left on sesame street and will instead just say turn left in 200 feet etc.

my 07 tl-s also does not text-to speech street names. Are you guys sure that was a feature on 07-08? If it was, how do I activate it?

you do have it.... in the Nav Setup screen... change the Guidance option to "MAX".... the enables the text-to-speech

Mine will tell me to "Turn right onto I-83 South." But for other street names it will not. Kinda spotty.

so i bought my 2010 orange 3.9 disc after i read dmz's review of it.
i have not had the same luck with the disc as he did.

i did notice more updated restaurants in the area show up as well as some other icons, but nothing major that i have found more useful.

i tried typing mcdonald and it still gave me a slew of random places, i had to be very accurate with what i wanted in order for it to get what i wanted.

i didn't try it out for that long so i'll update in a couple of days.

now...if anyone can give me a answer to whether or not 04-06 TL's can speak street names. i would assume no since i've looked all over the menu's and have the latest nav update, but at lease one other person with an '05 says theirs can.
