Question 2007 navi in a 2005 TL?

What's up people? I am newly registered and hoping that I'm not debuting with a stupid question but here goes....

Can a Navigation system (along with the CD changer and climate controls, obviously) from a 2007 TL be installed and work properly in a 2005 TL? Should one expect to run into any problems as far as functionality is concerned (car's CPU, connections, ect....)? I know the '07 has a rear-view camera in it, aside from that are there any features or differences that might prevent this conversion? Oh yeah, I am trying to add navigation to my currently navigationless '05 TL. I thought it would be nice to also add the capability to play mp3's in my car hence my wanting to go with the navigation unit from the '07 TL.

I did try a search for this before posting but couldn't find any threads addressing this topic. ANY input would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forums. What search terms did you try? There are numerous threads on converting a non-navi TL into a nav and as well about the radio. But to answer your questions:

Since you have an 05 non-navi, it will be easier to convert to an 07-08 4.xx navi system. There are a few quirks though and it will be very costly. TO do all of that, you will need the following items:
2007 DVD drive - 2K
2007 Navi Screen - 2k
2007 radio - 800 dollars
2007 XM tuner
2007 HFL unit
2007 main car wire harness
2007 clock display assembly
2007 Audio Amplifier
2007 GPS antenna

Its going to cost quite a bit to do this. But if you are willing to settle on the 04-06 3.xx version, it will be cheaper. You can buy the conversion kit for around 2K on ebay. It consists of the drive, antnna, harnesses screen and clock display. Also installation can be done by the seller (acuratech) for a few hundred dollars.

2007 has phonebook import though navi and radio, audio amp since there is the dolby system, XM tuner due to the navi traffic.

Thank You very much! I searched under terms like "2007 2005 navi conversion", I did find topics talking about adding navigation to your car but didn't see anything talking about going between years which was my main concern.

Believe it or not I was able to get the Navi Screen and the DVD drive off of Ebay for a combined cost of about $650.00 the other night!

Just to double check, when you say I will need to get the radio for $800, you are referring to the stereo (like for music and such), right? Or are you referring to another type of radio? Also would you recommend going through Acura for the remaining items or is there a more cost efficient way of obtaining them. Someone posted a link for a national junkyard site in another thread but I didn't see any 2007 TL parts anywhere on the site. I saw the GPS antenna on the Acura site for around $32.00 I believe, they had a number of wire harnesses listed as well, a couple of them were like $500 and $600....I'm hoping one of those isn't the one you were referring to but.....somehow I have a feeling it is lol. Couldn't seem to find the HFL on there though or the XM tuner for that matter, I guess I'd have to just go in person and ask about those along with the rest of the parts. Thanks again, this has been a HUGE help.

the wire harness is 1020 dollars to my knowledge. The radio is the one that holds the 6 cd's and has the tape player. The 07+ drives will not be able to control the old one properly
