2005 Acura TL navigation - change to regular radio

I have a navi 2005 acura tl, the dreaded "please check your disc" is on my screen. I have taken the drive from the trunk out and cleaned it, the disc is also in good condition. Not sure what could be wrong with the drive. Because the navi doesnt work, I lose alot of functionality. Is it possible to put a regular acura radio console assembly in place of the navi. I noticed the hookups were identical on the back with the exception of one plug that I assume then is the navi plug. So is it possible to use a standard acura radio in place of the navi one?

It's likely not a dirty DVD laser lens, like some experienced in the past. It more likely is the components inside the DVD drive that eventually just died of old age. You can replace the inner parts by buying them off aliexpress.com. Yeah, it sounds like a sketchy site, but it really isn't. It's a China based site that connects you straight to Chinese manufacturers. You can quite literally buy the parts you need at a fraction of what they would cost anywhere else.

Anyway, that being said, what you'd want to do is pull out the DVD drive, open it up and remove the lens component. It's a decent size piece and easy to remove, so long as you have a very tiny Philips head screw driver.

Since you have a 2005 TL, the part number you'd be looking for is: DV36T02C

You can buy it here:
Original and best quality DV36T02C DV36T02A/DV36T020/DV36T12A Car DVD mechanism for ACURA BMW AUDI car DVD navigation system-in Car Multimedia Player from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

It's a fairly cheap fix, and a 99% chance that is the problem. I'd try that before buying a base stereo.

is that part fairly easy to remove? I had the drive apart to clean the lens, but is that unit that you linked an easy part to remove from the drive? I dont wanna spend $145, and then not be able to remove it lol .

At this point, your only option is to replace the drive mechanism. Last year, I bit the bullet and sent my unit away to Alpine.
