'07 MP3 Media/Format compatibility?

I'm new to the forum and to the Acura family (picked up my Black TL-Navi on the 5th) and have been unsuccessful burning and playing a MP3 CD. My previous car as well as my truck both have Alpine MP3 units and they seem to play everything fine. I have tried two brands of blanks, tried multi and no-multisession and also made a cd with just 1 file(song) in the root directory that was an 8.3 filename. I even went so far as to burn a DVD Data disk with MP3's on it. It just spits them out after about 20 seconds with a 'FORMAT' message.

Any '07 owners tried a MP3 disk yet?

Rick

When I was thinking about trading for a 07 TL Type S (which I did not), I burned a data CD disk with some random mp3 files using Nero. It played in the in the 07 without issue. None of the files where in 8.3 file format. I had mp3 files in the root directory and in sub folders. Once I figured out how to navigate in the folders, it was pretty straight foward. I would make sure you are closing the disk. It sounds like you tried that already.

Yeah, I tried every which way, wasted several cd-r's as I didn't want a cd-rw to be an issue (yet dvd+rw's work just fine as I've been playing around with making DVDA's). It's not a real BIG issue now as I have my 60G ipod (plugged into the aux jack, too many horror stories about music-link and installing 3rd party interfaces). Shame Acura went to Panasonic and didn't stick with Alpine for the head unit electronics.. my Alpine unit with the 'high speed' interface, although not perfect, works great without any intrusion on my Itunes library.

Maybe when I go back to the dealer (>50 miles away) for 1st oil change I'll take a few cd's and test with other cars and bring up the issue.

Definitely try a few of your CDs in another TL on the dealer lot and have the dealership look at it next time you are there. I bascially burned my test disks in a few minutes before I headed to the dealership on some free-bee blank CD-Rs I had hanging around for a few years. All test CDs worked without issue. Good luck.

i don't own an '07 TL, but may be able help...

first, don't burn multisession discs...this will only increase your chance of incompatibility...

what bitrate are the mp3's you're burning? ...what program are you using to burn the mp3 files? and what blank media have you used?

I burned a Imation CD-RW with mp3s for use in my '07 and I was SHOCKED how great it sounded. It also shows the name of the song, artist, album, folder, etc. I used Nero to burn them. You may want to take it back to the dealer to check it out.

OK I just burned a CD-R, heres the data:
07 TL-S
Burned on Roxio 8 as data disc
Maxell CD-R 700 MB
Burned some MP3's on root directory, some in folders.

And the results are: All works great. Sounds very good with DB PL11 and has CD Text of songs and folders.

Stick with single session disks by finalizing the CD upon completion. Also try burning your disk at a slower speed. CD-RWs should work fine (at least they do in my '06 for audio CDs).

Lastly, try a different software. I've had no issues with Nero. Deep Burner is a free CD burning software that is also mentioned a lot on here.

The '07 TL only supports MP3 CDs and not MP3 DVDs, so don't waste your time with MP3s on DVDs.

Good luck!

I was away all weekend at a friends and decided to burn the same cd from his PC. I copied the content of the failing cd to his HD and burned another cd. Much to my surprise he had NO burning sofware (nero/roxio) installed so I used the built-in XP burning engine to a fuji cd. That one worked! I'll try burning a cd from one of the other 4 pc's in the house and see where my problem is.. might be my burner, don't remember if I used the DVD burner or the CD burner in the machine. At least I feel better that I don't have a bad unit in the car, really don't want them tearing the car apart to service the cd player!

Thanks all for your help/suggestions.
