'04 TL radio doesn't get loud
MY BABY AIN'T BUMPIN!!!
My TL's radio [w/out nav] just is NOT getting loud. I can have the windows up and vol at 40 and still carry on a conversation with someone at a normal talking tone.
Any tips on what could be the issue? Has anyone heard of this before?
I have searched plenty of different forums but haven't found anything about the 04's radio simply not putting out the volume it's supposed to.
Thanks in advance.

So the radio used to get loud enough and one day it stopped getting as loud? The reason I ask is the main complaint of the stock system is a lack of volume so if you're new to the car there might be nothing wrong with it.
If you have lost volume, the amps seem to be failing at a high rate but that usually means no sound out of a couple channels. Have you confirmed all speakers are working? The balance and fader are centered?

I have checked all the settings through the radio - bal/fade/cent/etc - all are balanced, centered, and so on.
All of the speakers work, you can even hear the tiniest of thumps from the stock sub.
My first thought was that the amp went bad. However I wanted to search through friends and forums before I started throwing dough.

If it started off satisfactory and lost output, it could be several things but the amp would definitely be suspect. I'm guessing if you lost one speaker you would realize it wasn't playing. I know I'm stating the obvious but amp or headunit or wiring (ground, short).
It would make a good excuse to upgrade the system. Add an aftermarket amp and take the signal preamp. You're trouble shooting and upgrading at the same time lol.
I know this doesn't help much. I've heard of people losing one or several channels completely off of the stock amp but never a volume reduction. If you figure it out, let us know.

Something else I've noticed, on cool/cold mornings (NC cold, not sub-freezing or anything crazy) is when the audio system is the quietest.
On warmer days, especially this 100*F weather we've been having, the radio sometimes reverts to its fairly loud output.
Thoughts on that?

I believe the people that had issues when cold and not when hot replaced the amp with success. There are a few threads around here on that subject, probably none in the past year though. If it turns out to be the stock amp, it's probably cheaper to go with a decent aftermarket amp.

Speakers very low
Im having a simalar problem. all my speakers are low except the right rear. the volume fluctuates based on ?????. The xm is the lowest. I can barely here it with the windows down. the radio and cd are louder from the right rear only. the other speakers are very low at all times. I went to best buy they bybassed the amp and said it sounded worst so they do not think its the amp. I need Help I want my system back.
when I bought the car last year it had a humming sound comming from the navigation but was loud. help I need music?

Here you go. A guy with the exact same problem and the amp was the cure.

Thank you!
I have dealt with this for a year wondering what the issue was. I should have googled back then. Ordered amp off eBay for $130, and it's like going from 1 shitty little headset to a movie theater system. Funny how it was quieter in the cold, and this started by my sub getting weaker, I thought sub went out but it was the amp.
