I did not write it down, but I am pretty sure that the .9 was pretty constant and some nominal wattage increased/decreased with the volume. I doubt that I would test anything above 20 or 25 anyway. You need an o scope to test it - DMM won't work right.

No, no LOCs, Line drivers or anything for me. I cut the heads off of RCAs and wired them directly to my amps all from the pre-amp signals. The audison and JL have switches that boost the signal. I cannot remember if the zapco does... Basically a high/low input switch. The amp specs will tell you what input voltage it will take - look up the manual on the one that you are looking at.

Beardsly - you guys sell JL. Use one of those amps and it will not matter.

FWIW, output voltage from the HU changes with the volume knob. .9v is probably at full tilt. Most of the time it will be in the .4-.5 volt range. You would be surprised at the noise reduction and added sq as a result of adding a line driver, especially with voltage this low.

Correct, but I ended up with an excelon XR-5S for the price of on the house. And since my wife can't really tell the difference...

I almost challenged myself on this car to do it all for free. As of now I have the amp, JL C2 comps front and C2 coax rear, with a 10w1v2 for a total investment of $20.

I suppose I could always sell the 5s and buy a 700/5 instead...

I'll finish my car then see how it shakes out.

How do you like that XR-5s. I've actually got an XR-4s and PPI p900.4 sitting next to me. Debating which to use...

Nice. Always nice to work in an industry that you can use at home. If you ever get any cheap stuff that I might like, give me a hollar - I have cash or can even trade for timing belts, tranny fluid changes, pressure switches, etc.

My wife has Utopias on Audison in her car. ...like she could tell either (she kinda can). I have the KRX3 on Zapco in mine. If I wasn't so lazy, I would switch the comps.

That whole XR series is pretty solid. I'd place them between the PDX and the HD in that style of amp. I have had good luck in the past w/ the 5S in several applications.

looks like im going with the JL xd400/4 $514 installed
reasons
1.fits perfect under the seat
2.has enough power to upgrade front stage later on
3.if i ever decide to upgrade and run a seperate mono amp the xd400 wont go t waste
4.buying it from a local auth dealer. i thought price was pretty good and the guy knew exactly what i was ref to regarding the "bal signal". he assured me the JL XD amps would work just fine. Also since i had shoulder surgery abt 3weeks ago i figured the out the door price was good. guess ill have to spend more $$ in the future to upgrade front stage and subs but i feel like im not working backwards. thx for all the input

IDK how u figure that is so much? again buying from an auth dealer w warranty and install(recent surgery). cheapest i found was on ebay for abt $300 again no warranty/non auth and still have to install myself. any decent shop will charge at least $100 for install. What im paying includes all wiring/work and removing sub.

Ah ok. Didn't know he was running all the wires for amp kit, removing stock sub, etc etc. That's not "too" bad I guess. Good luck on recovery! Surgery and rehab or getting back to normal is never fun.

I'd say that is very fair for that amp and that work. MAP on that amp is $399, figure ~$70-$100 in wiring, and I'd quote ~4 hrs to do the work. So I'd say you did just fine.
