First, welcome to the forum

07 TL-S all the way!!!

Aside from all the known little issues such as the rattles, I owned a 06 TL prior to my 07 TL-S and they both had the same rattles that were fixed with the help of some DIY info from this forum. Other than that, I love driving the TL-S, its a lot of fun, handles pretty good for a FWD car, and has enough power to back up some "spirited driving".

One thing I really don't like is the crappy turning ratio. I've been doing a lot of 3 point turns in this car.

one thing i don't really like are the DRL... would really be good if there was an option to turn it off rather than having to pull the fuse then having the annoying indicator on the dash...

oh yeah and the crazy blind spots...

Dislikes: TL is the first car I've been in that causes my Escort blue 8500 X50 to give false laser warnings...this hasn't happened once in any of our other vehicles in two years but consistently happens 2-5 times a day when I drive the TL.

Dislike that seat belt warning absolutely will not stop chiming if you want to drive without seatbelt.

Dislike that if I want to drive without VSA I have to turn it off everytime I get in the car...would prefer a off/on switch.

oh yeah and the crazy blind spots... Exactly!!! I have a 2003 TL-S and I like the size of the outside mirrors, lots of coverage area but also they are in my line of sight when making left turn. Can be a little dangerous (to pedestrians ) in the city. I purchased the TL this past May with 55K miles on the odometer and honestly cannot complain about rattles that so many posts here mention. No problem with CD ejection either, another common complaint. Gas mileage is great so premium costs not a major factor (if you have to ask the price you can't afford it, is that the old saying all we bazillionaires use? ). Yeah, right. Another "problem" is the design of the front end. In wet mucky weather the vehicles in front toss up a mess of dirty water etc and the streaks along the hood are something else. (satin silver). JC

There should never be an occasion not to wear a seat belt, IMHO.

06TL MT

Likes: Coming from GM cars, this car is absolutely bulletproof! 17K miles and only regular service so far.

Dislikes: Wish it had automatic headlights and a little more low end torque.

Likes: the styling of the car, agressive while luxurious. Best bang for the buck in my opinion, Love the ease of navi use and availability of navi hacks and also the help that acura provides if anything is to happen (TLC). Also the crash pictures here assure me that the car is very safe and that it is very solid.

Dislikes: The rattles, every fag and his lover buying one after i got mine because it was such a bang for the buck ( i wanted to be unique (no one knew of acura here)) and also that alot of companies do not have parts for the TL, so if you were to mod it, there is only comptech, AEM, Injen, Fujitsu, E-Shift, Ron Jon and Acura.

How about drive through windows/bank ATM's, etc when your wallet is in your back pocket? Actually I agree with you mostly as I have always worn my seatbelt at least 95% of the time.

I ride a motorcycle and I DO wear a helmet...in fact I wear all the protective gear when I ride my bike, but fortunately BMW doesn't have weight sensors in my seat, leather sensors in my handle bar grips. I would think a bike is quite a bit more dangerous than a car with six airbags and a roll cage. Go figure.

Where do all the rattles come from I keep reading about? I've only had my car about two weeks but it doesn't rattle....at least not yet.

Well, put on your seat belt and you wont hear any chiming. I always wear my seat belt and the one time I forgot the car went crazy reminding me - I' like that feature and I'm glad it beeps until you buckle your seat belt. I'm sick of hearing about accidents where ppl die in scenarios where a seat belt would have prevented such an outcome. Why would you not want to wear something that saves lives??? And it sounds like you want the VSA off all the time... Why would you do that? Sounds to me ur not too into safety - So why are u in a TL again? lol don't take this the wrong way i mean no offense i just find it kinda ironic.

I've had my -07 TL-S for about a month now. I'm very happy with the performance and handling. The car is tight, no rattles so far, and pretty much everything I hoped for.

Dislikes:

The HFL isn't all that great. All things considered, I wish it just behaved like my Motorola BT headset - when I push the button, get out of the way and let me talk directly to the phone. It already has all my contacts and has better voice recognition.

The navi is ok for navigating after you enter an address - about on a par with most I've used. But it has got to be the worst effing navi on the planet when it comes to finding something by name. Absofreaking useless. Whoever worked on that part of the design at Alpine needs to go play with just about any Garmin product and see how it should work.

Like I said before, I do wear my seatbelt...but have always felt that little red light on the dash showing put on your seatbelt was enough...however, if you must also hear it to be reminded...well it doesn't sound like you are a very safe driver either. I mean if you aren't paying attention to your gauges at all.

Regarding the VSA...I'm coming from owning a Nissan Maxima and have always been very impressed with their power....maybe not their handling or the quietness of their cabin, etc. Anyhow the TL (when compared to the torque and 255 hp the Maxima had) feels doggy with the VSA on. I'm not saying that I need to go fast, I'm just saying the car doesn't feel as powerful when by all counts of what I read the TL actually has similar power and better handling. So all I am saying is why couldn't it be a switch where I can choose to use it or choose not to use it. That way when I get in the car when it is raining or snowing I could flip it on. Isn't that what people do with their 4x4's?

I read about the performance and quality of the TL from Car and Driver and in the article I read they either never mentioned VSA or didn't spend 2 seconds on it. They also didn't write an article about a babysitting bell ringing to make sure I put my seat belt on.

There are plenty of things I like about the TL....things I like a LOT, but I feel capable enough to see the little red warning sign on my dash and know I need to be wearing a seatbelt and I feel confident enough I could turn a little switch when I wanted the added safety of traction control.

Dislikes: RATTLES there is one rattle on the car that sounds like a tin can being shook with a single pebble in it. It's that loud too; I have made an appointment with the dealer on Tuesday to take a look. That one rattle is mysterious, it disappears if I have a passenger in the seat. People think I'm nuts since they don't hear the rattle and I do when I'm driving alone. The rattle gets worse if I turn up the music like someone is shaking that can harder. That's really all I don't like about this car.

Likes: Standard features and amenities. For what I paid on a brand new car I can't complain all that much. It's the best entry/luxo sedan out there under 35k. This car comes only one way: loaded. It performs well, gets decent highway mileage, and its very comfortable.

im glad to hear you guys enjoy the tl so much (cept for the rattles) it kinda backs my decision up, i didnt mention this before but im not planning on getting the tl anytime soon since i will be gone oversees for a yr i kno its probably way to soon to tell but any changes to the 08 tl?

i have always loved the look of the tl and after going to other car makers (mits, mazda, toyo) i refound my love for acura/hondas. Another question how sluggish if any can you feel when the car is full passenger wise?

thx again

Compared to last car which was a GLX Passat;

Likes ..HP , gas milage , styling , amenities ( tho some are weak ) sound system

Dislikes ( and some of these weren't discovered till well after the test drive due to seasonal changes ) Poor Climate control ( I set the Passat at 68 summer & 72 winter and never touched them again .. the TL temps are not predictable or even reliable like that ) , 2 position heated seats not 5 and the back of the pass seat doesn't heat, windows fog up bad .. Passast never did , defroster is weak unless on full, absolutley poor quality leather, mentioned rattles, bodypanel fit & finish, mismatched bumper colors, radio / climatronic too bright at night, no switch to turn off the steering wheel controls lights, no switchblade key, no storage in the rear armrest, front cup holders are the worst I have ever seen and a lousy design.. you loose a canned pop in them and can't get out .. unless your seat is all the way back its hard to access, fading dash.

I have an 06 NBP TL w/Navi that I got last August. I've wanted one since the 3gs came out...

Likes:
-The styling, LOVE the styling with my A-Spec package. To me, the front looks really aggresive with the A-Spec.
-All the standard features. The technology is what got me to get this over the g35 coupe
-Interior looks great. Better than Lexus, BMW, and Infiniti
-The attention and compliments that I get
-Performance

Dislikes
-Blind spots from the pillar when I turn, especially when I'm turning left
-RATTLES
-Not as much HP as a g35, but It's not that big of a problem for me
-no Auto headlights
-Keyless entry isn't strong enough
-No exit assist, when the seat goes back and teh steeringwheel goes up when you open the door. My gramma's 2002 Maxima has it, why not the TL?
-No power adjustable steeringwheel

As for the VSA I think most cars, even the G35 reset themselves when you shut the car off.

You think our cup holders are bad? Try looking at the cupholders in the 06 g35 coupe... I've never seen cupholders that looked so cheap. even the ones in our 03 g35c were better and the ones in my moms 98 civic!

Ahh good point. That is another issue I've had; there is hardly any range on the remote. I'm not asking for 100 feet or anything, but it would be nice to be able to unlock the car before I am almost reaching for the handle.

HA! Come on over to South Mississippi...so far I've seen exactly THREE in my area since I bought mine in July, and yep, I LOVE that I have a "unique" car around here, and people engage me in conversation about it all the time. Helps that the nearest Acura dealer is 60 miles away, across the state line in Mobile, AL.

Only real complaint is the front pillars. I almost didn't see what I should have, could have been disasterous. I suppose the windows freezing shut is a complaint too, but most cars do freeze shut

I've had a a 2004 and its been a pretty good car. The dislikes are:

I have experienced the dreaded vibration problem and it has never really gone away. All four tires have been replaced, but its still there some days.

The bluetooth phone connection is unpredictable and inconsistent. While the NAVI is great the handsfree feature is not as good as BMW's and there is no phonebook download features.

Since I've owned Honda's their brakes/rotors continue to be a weak spot. I've replaced all 4 wheels now, the fronts at about 55k kms. My rims are very subject to getting scraped from the curbs. My teenage kids have kissed the curb more than once. My headliner has fallen off, so I glued it on myself.

The torque steer is something I have been used to for a long time, but I'm getting tired of it. The Acura engine is great, but its time for Honda to get into AWD or offer it as an option

Like many Acura owners, I grew up with Honda's having exprienced good value, well manufactured cars and decent performance. As my affordability index rises, I see that the Acura line up is good value, but is in a category where it doesn't really rank top in class. It's a good car for the money but the TL needs to be something very special if Honda really want's to really penetrate the luxury market with the TL and start to sell TLs in Europe. Going fast and having a lot of techno gadgets only goes so far. Everyone is doing it. My wife recently got the new 328xi Coupe. While its not quite as fast (although closer than you might think) its handling attributes, and what appears to be excellent quality really shines. The BMW costs more money, but not that much more. And the strong residual values make it easier for those that want to lease a BMW. Acura has to figure out what it is going to do with this platform in 2008/9. The competition is getting tough!

I owned a 04 TL and 06 Navi TL and just got my 07 Navi TL yesterday, but my intial observations are:

Awesome improvments, but a few minor things that are not normally to my taste are:

- Prefer 4 poke steering wheel to the new 3 spoke
- Prefer old tail lights to new ones, although I might order the S tails lights ina few months.
- Actually prefer the old guage cluster, but new one is growing on me.
- prefer the old grill
- don't care for that black thing in the rear lower bumper
- prefer the old wheels, but new ones are good
- prefer the dark grey interior over the lighter grey, so I opted for black interior this time

Things I love over my older TLs:

- Navi now can stay in the direction you are heading vs. always North
- ELS system now plays MP3 and WMA files
- seats seem better
- love the fog/driving lights
- Michelins ont he navi!! Yeah! (although my 06 had that)
- Could be me, but the 07 seems quieter

Would have preferred keyless start over backup camera on the navi models.

I really think the 07 TL is the best value for the dollar. I test drove an 07 G35 and while it is more a pure sports sedan to compete with BMW3, the TL gives you more for the dollar and a btter balance of handling and comfort. The G35 felt more cramped inside. And I love the Acura everything incdued, just pick Navi or non NAvi. With G35 you need to get Premium package to get Naiv and then that has XM and then the tech pakage gives you more goodies, puching the car above TL-S territory. I prefer the TL center NAvi cluster over the "I Drive" like G35. The TL has sexier cleaner interior lines that flow mostly uninterrupted. The TL Navis screen seems bigger as well. The G35 did feel tighter and handled ona dime and was super responsive, but I like the better mix int he TL.

fyi, you can change that setting in the 04-06 navi - always north or always in direction you're heading.

definitely get the TL over TSX if you can afford it. Much nicer ride with more power. Don't know too much about the type S but that seems like a little too much HP thru the front wheels. Like the TL design, good performance and handling and top notch interior. Dislike that all 4 of my rims are scratched and the navi seems to be missing a lot of destinations in my area.

for the price and overall package, i would recommend it over almost anything out there

My only significant gripe is with the interior door handles. There should've been a cup in the armrest for closing the doors (like my 04 Accord had) either in addition to the existing handles or as a substitute for them.

wow after reading all of your posts im really incline to buy the tl s , my only concern is that i been reading alot about tranny problems for the tl is this something that is a constant problem or is it mainly due to driver behavior (be honest)

also i ruled out the tsx and g35 but now im looking at the new mazdaspeed6 as well almost the same hp as the tl-s but its a 4 banger any comments to pull the other half of my brain back to the tl s?

thank you once again

My tranny for reverse broke at around... 300miles? It was about 4 days after I got the car. But i started hearing mysterious grinding noises that made me think i ran over a soda can, but when i'd look there was nothing there about the second day, i think. So I think it's a factory problem. becuase I was definately careful with the TL since it's my first car.

But other than that no more tranny problems...

I have an 05 TL 6MT with Navi my only dislikes are:

This car should have been a RWD.
The driveline vibration at higher speeds, I've had 3 sets of rims and tires plus alignments and its there for all three, now I'm learning to live with it.
Tape deck with the stereo, get with the times.

My next car will not be a TL, but most likely the RL or if I splurge it will be one of the 500 series BMW. The M5 but thats a huge leap in $.

I have an 04 6MT with aspec rims and suspension.

Pros:
  • 6 speed, handling & power ... good ride(enough for me)
  • bluetooth
  • nice interior
  • nice body
  • cool mods available
  • leather seats
  • good safety rating
  • good in snow (with winter tires of course)
  • satellite radio
  • heated seats
  • auto sideview mirror adjust when rev.
  • easy to work on so far (brakes, fluids change, tinting, finding rattles, mods, etc.)
  • steering wheel buttons

Cons:
  • Sunroof too noisy when open
  • water enters side windows when cracked and light rain
  • some rattles
  • rear tire wear problem (bump stops?, plus '04 had the worst stock tires, first thing I got rid of)
  • no mp3s input or via CD (they fixed this for newer models I hear)
  • no fold down rear seats
  • weak keyless entry and no keypad entry
  • can't choose XM or Sirius
  • rear view mirrow just doesn't dim enough at night.
  • cup holder blows for 6MT ... gets in the way of shifting, unless you buy those baby water bottles.

good in snow (with winter tires of course)
Even with all-season tires, any car can be good in the snow... if you know how to drive in the winter A lot of people think that ABS, VSA, snow tires, etc. make it so you can almost drive like it's summer. You can't. All you need to do, in any car, is avoid braking while going around curves (brake before the curve), don't try to take off too fast from a stop, know how your car handles in the snow/slush/ice, and most important of all: slow down!.

Also helpful is to not pull out in front of traffic as if you'll be able to get up to speed or clear the intersection as fast as you could when the roads are dry.
