Xpel 3m clear bra installed $495. Good Price?
Hi,
I live on Long island NY and got a quote from an authorized installer/dealer in my area from XPel website to do My 2004 TL, hood, fenders, mirrors, front bumper and headlights for $495. Is that a good price?

i am tempted to get it because i got huge rock chip recently but i am afraid that it will look silly. this basically means i don't have to wax the hood and fenders right? i hate to have that clear bra make my paint look dull.

According to the website it has a guarantee to to fade or discolor your paint.
you would wash it and wax it like you would your car nornmally. go to www.xpel.com and read up on it.

Hi everyone, Im a paint protection Installer in the Sacramento area. Pricing really depends on region. I know here in the Bay area/Sacramento area installs are a little pricier, I've seen full package kits that include hood, fenders, bumper, headlights, foglights, mirrors, door edges, door sills, gas cap, door cups, and bumper strips go for 600 all the way up to 2000. It sounds like your getting basic frontal coverage, 495 installed sounds like a good deal. More experienced installers usually charge more. REMEMBER, this is not a product you can buy and expect to be perfect. This is a service, I've seen some good kits with great coverage look crappy because of inexperience by the installer, just make sure your installer knows what he is doing and you'll be ok.

guarantee to fade or not to fade the paint? The film has UV inhibitors in the urethane. That will stop the film from yellowing and fading the paint underneath. This stuff is virtually maintenance free. No special care is needed, after it cures, treat it as if it werent even there.

I don't know how you got the Xpel kit for that price since the kit itself minus the labor costs more than that (unless they get some serious discount). Of course when I had my PPF put on my car they promised me it was Xpel, too. When I saw it I knew it wasn't - the cut was so screwed up. I forced them to admit it wasn't an Xpel kit and had them rip the thing off. Oddly enough - it cost me $500, too. :banghead:

This is why when I see people ask "is XXX a good price for a clear bra install?" my response is, it could be a great deal or the worst money you ever spent!

Pictures of Xpel clear bra installed!
pictures of the xpel clear bra installed.
I am very happy with the job they did!
The only lines you really notice are the ones across the hood and down the fenders and on the back of the side mirrors. Of course if you really go close you see all of them. It does not wrap around the edges!

I got two nasty rock chips this weekend that I'll need to touch up... maybe I should invest in a clear bra for my car, too. Jeremy -- what are your prices? I'm in the East Bay.

Lore, I too got one chip on the left front pannel, however I guess it would not have prevented by the bra had I installed it earlier. We need to arange a group install price from Jeremy if possible. Last time he quoted on the forum was $595. If he gives some discount we can round up all the Bay area interested TLers.

I'm really annoyed at the two rock chips. It seems to have penetrated the paint surface quite deeply (definitely a "chip" and not a scratch) and will require some patience and some skill to remove it.
I have to pick up some rubbing compound to make sure the touch-up will "meld" with the rest of the paint on the hood. I ordered a touch-up pen from serf21 on eBay a few days ago, hopefully it'll get here soon!

I too got the pen from him. Took 4-5 weeks to arrive. But the fix I did with the pen is not good. I wish I would have left it alone for a body shop. Let's get this clear bra group buy rolling. I'm in for a good price.

Yes! 4-5 weeks and not days. But serf was always in contact with me and was ready to ship the other one. Good guy. But I got it finally after 4-5 weeks.
The thing is the pen tip is like a flat printing pen and difficult to tap the color in the chip. My chip was small like a 2 rice grains. I think I put a little more paint in it. Very difficult to get the right amount. Though I'd have more paint than the chipped paint up to the white clear coat. Other side of the pen is a clear coat which goes on the paint. I'll get it fixed some time in the future.

How did you do it? I plan on doing this:
1) Mask off area
2) Apply at least 3 layers of the paint via the pen, allowing 10-20 minutes to dry between each layer. I'll gauge the depth of the paint (It chipped all the way through to the white backing... whatever that is!) and see if I need more than 3 layers.
3) Let try 24 hours
4) Wet sand the area down, if necessary. If not, then I'll just use some rubbing compound to bring it down to the same level as the rest of the paint.
5) Apply clear coat in the same fashion -- several layers with 20 minutes drying time.

So you're saying it was tough to put the correct amount of paint in the chipped area? Aren't you supposed to mask the area off, apply the paint in layers, and then once it's try, sand it down to the same level as the other areas, and then apply your clear coat in layers?

Hey guys!
Wow, gone for a few days and look what I miss!
Yes that price is still good, and if you get 3 people together I'll knock $100 off each.
Lore and Joganjani drop me a line and we'll get it set up
