XM is a highly compressed signal, I assume the loss is due to just heavy signal loss in the compression.

They don't claim all the channels are commercial free. Only the music channels are. It's the same on Sirius.

They play commercials on the news channels and such because the source plays commercials.

If you are not happy with the XM radio service, simply cancel it.

The differences between line level input strength between the different audio components (hell, most of my CD collection varies in volume) is unavoidable. This is only presents itself as noticable at low volume levels. My XM radio is every bit as loud as my FM stations and CD's at 35+: The Acura ELS system comes equipped with an output power limiter which prevents the amp from clipping and ultimately destroying our speakers.

I wish XM would improve the sound quality....it sound muffled most of the time. I do like it though....it just needs to sound better.

Both XM and Sirius are very limited by bandwidth. If they were to increase the sound quality, they would have to decrease the number of channels they offer. I believe the current compression on music channels is comparable to 128kbps MP3s. Compression on news and talk channels is much higher than music however.

I've had XM for about 2 years now. I think it sounds just fine.

I think XM is ok, much better than regular Radio.

Maybe I'm not the fan to have music blowing my ears, but I'm fine with my XM now. If you feel the low volume, why not turns up louder?

i said this in another thread....

XM sounds muffled and no highs... IN THE ACURA... In my other cars it sounds MUCH BETTER.. I do not know why.. but that is just the case...

Anyone who has XM is other cars or at home will telly ou that it doesn't sound as good int he Acura.. can someone else verufy this?

As for the volume, it is ALSO low in the Acura for NO reason.. it is FINE.. loud as anythign els ein my other cars.

There may be some manufgacturing issue or something..

Someoen pleae confirm.

MikeRadio,
Ther may be something wrong with your radio. XM sounds great in my car and the volume is fine. The DVD is what I have to crank up to hear. While the DVD needs to be on vol 23 to hear, I only need vol 8 for the XM stations. That being said, some stations sound better than others. I have no problems with stations 20-26,45,50,71,72,74 & 81 my presets.

I agree with GLDMAN. I have found that the sound quality and volume levels (at the same radio volume level) varies significantly from Channel to Channel.

For example, Channel 41 (Boneyard) needs to be cranked to 16-18 to suit my needs, but if I switch to Channel 47 (Ethel), I need to lower the volume at least 2 or positions. Also, I have found that the new channels (especially CNN) are the worst when it comes to volume levels.

I have the same situation like GLDMAN
my preset 20~21 and 81~82 and so on, they are extremely loud when they are at vol 8... but 150 and 151 the comedy channel I have to turn them up to vol12 or vol 13

by the way...does xm radio got a web site?

there is no difference between the channel quality of directv and xm radio. you can clearly see this on dtv and clearly hear it on xm. regardless if you dont like it dont pay for it.

They may not have commercials, but those crappy DJ's, who think they are funny sure can talk a lot.
