Wow, I've been TL'd

Picked mine up last Thursday. NBP/EBony 5AT Non-Nav.

The Snow is bringing me down. I left it in the garage today.

I traded my 2003 Lexus ES300 for the and TL. Let me say these two cars are universes apart.

Before the Lexus, I had a 2000 528I and the TL blows away both cars.

My 20 year old son say's "Dad you finally got a car I want to borrow". I've never understood what his problem with the 528 was but the Lexus was really a piece of crap.

Anybody have thoughts on breaking in this baby. Dealer said no restrictions, I just dont want to trust them. I knew more about the car than they did.

Congrats, man!! As for breaking it in, you'll get all sorts of opinions on this but I think most would agree to no drive it for a prolonged period of time at the same RPM range (i.e. a long 200 mile trip on the highway with the cruise set). Try to up shift/down shift to run the car through a broader RPM range and you'll be fine.

I sort of babied mine for the first 1,000 miles though...that's just me.

Congrats dude!! You picked a great car.
The Lexus a piece of crap? You have your Nomex on?
Why do you feel that way? I would much prefer the TL over the ES300, but they're two different cars. If you want a subdued, conservative, quiet, isolated feeling, pillows must be under the tires kind of car, then the ES is probably a great car. Just curious why you feel that way, plus you didn't have it very long. What did you drive prior to the Lexus?

The Lexus has a serious defect and has for a couple of years. The automatic transmission has a software glitch where when you need to accelerate and expect a downshift and burst of speed, you get a couple second delay before anything happens. Almost got into a major accident trying to get on the expressway. They know about it and won't do anything about it. I wasn't aware it still existed on the 2003. My salesman at Lexus assured me it was problem in the USA assemble and it was moved back to Japan. All BS.

I had a 2000 528 before that and thought I would like the plush and refined lexus. It just wasn't for me. Now I'm very happy with the TL.

Thanks

Duh!! Geez, if I re-read your post, I see that you stated you had a 528... sorry. Been stuck at work all day, it's too late. Need to go drive the TL and get energized.
Wasn't aware of the problem with the shifting. Doesn't sound good.
I don't think you'll have the same problem kicking the TL in the butt, depress accelerator, almost instant downshift, then.... you're "moving on up... " to the ticket zone. :o)
Have fun with it.

..... That is why there is a possible recall on TOYOTAs in regards to this. Go to the Off Topic section of this website...

ulangca,

That looks like the opposite problem. Mine would hesitate when you wanted to take off. I'm sure they have the same attitude though. My problem as I understood it, all the had to do was make a software change to fix the tranny problem.

Thanks

Congratulations on the TL!

The owner's manual says that that engine breakin is 600 miles and brake breakin is 200 miles. That's all I did and my engine hasn't fallen out of the car in 7200 miles!
