Congrats!

I remember when I first got mine, I wouldn't even make excuses like that to drive it. I would just jump in the driver's seat and drive around for no reason. Did that for about two and half weeks...lol

I had that same reaction every time they gave me one as a service loaner for my wife's MDX until I bought one just a few months later! LOL...and I still love it a year later! Can't say I've ever slept in it but this board will become your friend, that's for sure! hehe...wait until you go out and do something like put a CT RSB on it or more fun goodies and you'll love it even more!

Enjoy! Heck, you're probably out in your new TL right now not even reading this!

At your local autozone, get the bosch Icons's. They clean really well and curve too the windshield very nicely.

BTW: read the sticker on the fuel door:
PREMIUM GAS ONLY
REFER TO THE OWNERS MANUAL

Congrats on your new TL and BTW don't listen to your salesman. There are many debates over this issue. If the manufacturer recommends it and you obviously love it- keep giving it what it deserves.

Congrats. I drive a TSX and had a TL as loaner before. TL is really comfortable and yes, it's easy to fall asleep in while driving in the morning. Oh yeah, it's okay to sleep in the car, just don't get the leather seats wet and sticking when sleeping with someone else in it.

I guess I'm the annoying engineer of the group that will dispell the rumor that high octane fuel gives you more power than lower octane fuel.

When in fact the opposite is true... you will get more HP from lower octane 87 fuel than you will with premium 92 octane fuel. The reason why is that premium fuel has additives (in addition to detergents that aid in cleaning your fuel injection system) that reduce the fuels ability to self combust. Basically it lowers the volatility of the fuel. If you have a high compression engine like the TL does or a forced induction engine, i.e turbo or super charged, regular 87 octane fuel can or will ingnite by compression and or heat alone. If this happens before the spark plug sparks... you get pre-ignition also known as knocking or pinging. Most if not all manufacturers of engines that have a compression ratio of 10:1 or greater (10.5:1 for G3 TL's) recommend the use of high octane fuel. As is the case with Acura and the TL.

So... can you run regular in your TL? Yes... you can. ...and guess what... it will make more power. Of course... you risk pre-ignition or worse, detonation and that will damage your engine.

It's best to run premium not only for the reasons mentioned above but for many other reasons not mentioned.

Just my

Hope this helps.

I agree with all but this: "So... can you run regular in your TL? Yes... you can. ...and guess what... it will make more power". Here's my reasons.

An engine designed to operate most efficiently on, say, 91 octane fuel will do just that. If you burn 87 octane fuel in this engine, the ECU will compensate and retard ignition timing (if it detects knocking or pre-ignition). It will also alter the amount of fuel delivered into the intake stream. This will result in less power produced by the engine.

Higher octane fuels used in engines designed for lower rated fuels will: 1) produce less power; 2) result in lower fuel economy; 3) emit higher levels of contaminants; 4) deposit more carbon in the combustion chamber.

Yeah, we have a tandem garage and it just so happens that the TL always seems to in the back ready to go. Oh Well, feel bad for my Accord EX which gets muchs less road action now. But we sure love our TL!!!!! Any excuse to drive it.

How I start my day..!

1. Get up…(had a dream..i was driving TL.. )
2. Go to my window and see if car had a good night rest…(press lock button to see LED blink..”she said good morning” )
3. Take a quick shower… .I meant the car…lol (there is big tree on my drive way = Crap on my car)
4. Since its been raining almost for 5 days…NON STOP….there was lot of road debris on my inner wheel wall….give it a quick and through rinse)
5. Give quick wipe to interior and head out to work…!
6. I try not to put much weight on driver seat bolster..when I am getting in and out (one of the area that will crack first) thinking of getting small sheep skin pad to put on my butt area
7. At work..I try to park most secluded spot on the parking lot…(no buddy better park next to me)
8. Go “Hi” during lunch time…(press lock button to see LED blink..”she said Afternoon” ㅜ.ㅜ
9. Drive home (currently at 500km)
10. Give it a quick rinse to wash away dirt and road debris..(extra attention on a inner whell wall…even more on the back side..since it covered with fleece like carpet stuff)
11. Lock the car and go inside
12. press lock button to see LED blink..”she said good night” ㅜ.ㅜ)
haha…sorry to make u read all this
but I cant wipe this smile off my face
I think I got a Acura disease….!

You also get better gas mileage with the higher octane. I remember someone posting a comparison between driving with 87 and 91. They showed that you actually save money in the long run using the higher octane. You can probably do a search and find it, it might even be in the garage.

This is only true if the engine is designed to burn higher octane fuel. Using 87 octane fuel in an engine designed to burn 91 octane will result in less power (among other things). When this happens, more throttle opening will be required to accelerate to a givne speed, maintain that speed, pass other vehicles, and negotiate hills not to mention overcoming A/C, passenger load, etc.

I'm sure this is what you meant in your post.

I LOVE my TL too, but I have been expierencing a shimmy when braking, even between 25-40 MPH. Other than that, SICK ride! I have read that the rotors can warp, so I may need to do a brake over haul!!
