cmon you really believe that? what ever makes you sleep easier man...
but go into any acura dealership and they wont hesitate to how close they are to comparing to a bmw but they cant hold a candle to the handling which is sad cuz if they would just make the TL in RW it will perfect. but anyways go to a bmw dealership and they wont even mention acura as a competitor. first out of their mouth is MB infiniti or even Lexus. Look at my post in the first page..I had no problems with my BMW and if for the fact the I didnt want a new toy or could afford both insurances, Id be keeping my BMW. But in a sense youre right..the new 3 series is ugly. it has the styling of the 7 and 5 series, which by the way that design came out b4 the 3G TL, and fails to maintain the sharp look of the 7 or 5 series.

oh by the way...lets forget about price for a minute and take a look at it this way. the 3 series is currently the lowest series in the BMW US fleet. the TL is the "middle series" of acura. if we just go by that...acura should be using the tsx as the comparison but it doesnt because it doesnt even come close. the TL should be competing with the 5 series but it doesnt why?
lets just say that the TL is in a class of its own and be happy with it. I am.

It's just BMW way of naming their chassis.

E46: 99-05 3-series
E90: 06- 3-series
E38: 95-01 7-series
E65: short chassis 02- 7-series
E66: long chassis 02- 7-series

etc etc.

I hate to admit it but I agree...

I love BMWs...wish I had one. But they do have a service issue. At least they did up to 2003 with my father-in-law's M5. He had several serious (not major, but not small either) problems that required a lot of work on the part of the dealer. My friend's 3-series, the same.

Georgeous cars...would love to have one, but for the money, I am looking forward to getting a TL.

I will have to disagree. Don't get me wrong I am a true Acura lover, this being my sixth. In my opinion it is Acura that is mimiking european styling to go after the 3 series. I have had many people tell me they think my car looks like a bimmer(which pisses me off). In 04 they finally went away from that distinctive Honda look.

No way - the interior is bangled and the optional electronic steering (which you get if you get the NAV) is crap and if I wanted something that spend that much time in the garage, I'd get a f...ing Jag.

Anyway it looks like that E90 is longer and wider than the previous one.

I have been thinking about the possibility of trading the TL for the new 3-series. Maybe about two years down the road after they work out the kinks. I love the new looks.

Never get the first year BMW in particular or any car in general.
It is like being a guineea pig. Just wait a year or two untill the fix all bugs.

I love my E30 ('90 325iS). The TL just doesn't drive the same. Yea, I like the VSA and other things on the TL, but driving the Bimmer is just more fun.

But, with the E46 leaving, and the E90 coming in, the last true Bimmer is leaving us, being replaced by yet another mangled Bangle. Why couldn't he have designed Chevys instead???

Actually, it is not that bad in the average. Consumer Reports evaluates them as better than average. The E36 had numerous issues, though.

No thx, since I'm Asian I plan on sticking with Asian cars! Also I heard that repair prices are killers with German cars.

I would only keep the BMW while it's under warranty. Probably do a 3 or 4 year lease. Maintenance if free also, so no more paying $30 for oil changes.

The reliability on newer BMW's is rather dissapointing. The older ones were better. My 15 yr old 3-series with 140K miles has been more reliable than the new Ford Windstar that we owned a few years ago.

And, when something needs fixing on my car, I take the opportunity to upgrade it.

It's better IMO to spend $3K on a car and $7K on repairs and upgrades and end up with a new suspension, new headlights with HIDs and a new audio system and a bit of interior bling than spending $10K on a more expensive newer car or even a Chevy Cobalt.

ill throw my in...

i also have a 99 e46 style 328i. had it since it was brand new. it now has 92k miles and has never broken down or had any major issues with it. its been properly maintained.

it really doesnt matter what car you have as long as you maintain it properly, it will run a long time.

The TL is "american!" Assembled in Ohio. okay okay, its owned by honda and most of the parts are prolly outsourced, W/E. If i could get the new 3 for the same price, of course. BMW has always been my favorite car. Totally different look then acura. I like both looks, but in a different sense. I need front or AWD. New england weather...

Effin BW's. People buy them for the name, that's about it. The TL is far more comfortable in the cabin and drives hella fine. Who needs to spend another 5K + for a name and no better performance?

I both agree and disagree. I think the 3 series can outhandle the TL, and acceleration is very close for the 2 cars, but sitting in the BMW, it just doesn't feel as relaxing. Plus the price difference is too much to justify I think, unless someone's rich and can afford 2 new cars. I sure would take the TL over the 3 series as a daily driver anyday, especially with the weather up here. It seems like everything except for the AWD versions get parked for the winter. Most people here own FWD or AWD cars. And a lot of people DO buy the BMW for the name, which is sad. Especially if they get a 320i. Even my 1st gen TL is faster than that car, and my TL has real leather on the seat part, not 'leatherette' aka synthetic leather. I think to get a GOOD BMW you gotta buy an M3 at LEAST. The people who buy BMW for the name are the ones who bought the 318i for 30k with cloth seats, a tape player and hubcaps...

-EDIT-
Oh yeah and thanks to the person who explained the E designations.

I actually saw 2 318i's parked in the past 4 days. One at the university and another at west edmonton mall. Both had hubcaps, but one had "leatherette" and the other had cloth seats and no cd player. I can't imagine that such a heavy car with such a small engine has any acceleration to speak of. I bet my friend's 89 Integra auto transmission is faster...

I would agree, wouldn't it be for the existence of ESP (aka DSC/VSA). I didn't expect to work so well with a RWD, but it is almost magical on my 325i. It itook me this to buy a RWD, because for serious snow like here, I used to prefer by far FWD.

I owned AWD cars and didn't enjoy them.

i don't know about you guys, but bmw interiors do not say luxury to me at all. sure there's leather and stuff, but the center console design is horrible. if you want to see a nice german interior, check out audi and merdedes.

Someone's obviously never driven one. Having driven in both, the real "feel" of each brand is evident. For the most part, Acura is just not the same.

Well, I owned a 2003 BMW 325i and a 2004 Audi A4. Both were brand new and both didn't make it for more than 1 year as I got rid of them.
From the moment I got my TL I knew that this would be the perfect blend between sportiness and luxury.
BMW 3 series lacks luxury at all levels but has some balls, however except for M3, is no match to TL overall performance.
Audi A4 lacks that sporty feeling but its interior is very nice appointed.
TL has all from both worlds.

318's are slow as shit and i really don't know why these euro econo boxes would be sold in the states. someone getting a bmw is not getting it cause they want a economical ride.

Whe the 318i first came out (about '85 I think) it was a 138hp engine powering a car that weighed less than 2700lbs. The f/r balancing was almost perfect with this engine as well, and the car didn't cost that much. When you consider the alternatives at the time, wouldn't it seem like an awesome deal? Or perhaps a LeBaron would be more suited to your tastes?
I guess the 318i has just carried on since then, but sadly the car has got quite a bit heavier since the initial model.

Sorry, but I've driven 2 different BMW Models. I was very dissapointed when I did, because I figured that since everyone makes such a big deal over having a BMW, it must be friggin sweet. Well, I can honestly say it wasn't...in fact, I think it kinda sucked. The acceleration wasn't bad, but the interior and overall quality is crap IMO. The TL is like others have said, is the total package. It not only has extremely nice interior, but it will hang with even tough $50K cars. For what the TL was designed for, I think it is the best by far. Also, I'm tired of seeing orange in the dash cluster. The wood grain interior and other cheap looking feature need to go in the BMW.
