worth getting B1 service done at dealer?

So i get a notice on the dashboard for B1 service maintenace. Is it worth paying and getting B1 service done at the dealer? HOw many of you just get it done at a local shop? What would be the price diff if I were to get it done at a dealer vs. going to a local shop and getting it done?

it would help to know how much your dealer charges for this service.

Price for B1 Service

STOP!! GETTING RIPPED OFF

If B1 costs more than ~$60 with the "standard" Synthetic-Blend oil, you are getting ripped off.

PERIOD!

That's Tire Rotation, Oil Change, New Oil Filter and a "12/18/24-point" Vehicle Inspection (or whatever they call it where you go).

The "24-point" inspection is STANDARD and FREE/INCLUDED at 99% of the decent place you'd go for an Oil Change.

Seriously, it's not about, "I don't have time to .... blah, blah, blah" or "I'd rather spend the extra money .... blah, blah, blah" or "I have enough money, so .... blah, blah, blah". If you pay for something that most competent places give away for free, that's just plain fucking stupid and no one here can help you.

Factors that will Increase or Decrease cost of Service:

- You bring your own Oil = Decreased Price
- You bring your own Oil Filter = Decreased Price

- You ask for Full Synthetic Oil = Increased Price

- After reading this post, you're still a dumb ass and pay for an "inspection" = Increase.

If you do this DIY, you'll get a better filter and FULL Synthetic Oil for ~$30 and maybe an hour or so of your time.

BTW - The DIY is SIMPLE. The slowest newbie on the forum can do it in a couple hours, MAX, including cleaning and waxing your wheels.

My dealer tried to upsell my B1 service to a major service for $362.00? I asked him why and he said the coputer records didn't show a major sevice completed yet on my car at 32,000 miles. I ended up getting just the B1 service for 62.00.

I just did the B1 service [oil change] on my TL as well. The post from BC w/ photos is great if you don't know what to look for when under the car. *Anyone* can change their own oil provided that they have basic tools and a jack. If you don't have jack stands, you can use wooden planks. I use 2x4's or deck boards cut about 20 inches long. I stack four on top of each other and have been doing it this way for nearly 20 years now. Once the weight of the vehicle is on them, it isn't going anywhere.

You'll also want to invest in an extension for your ratchet (8 inch or so is good) and clamp-style oil filter wrench attachment to get the pesky filter off:

is it necessary to rotate the tires at 9,700 miles? B1 service requires tire rotation

I'd go ahead and do it for better tire wear. Why not? It's easy.

If you get the B1 service at a non-Acura place, how do you get the B1 light to go off?

Well i went to acura for B1, service for 165$, replace wiper, oil, filter, 28point inspection, brake inspection, tire rotation. I said if i get my own oil, and filter, will it be chear they said no. So i told them to do oil change, filter, and tire rotation, for 60$. Brake inspection, and other inspections is not needed on a car with 7,500 miles.

It's in the owner's manual, IIRC in the maintenance section, as well as in the 3G Garage sections. Owner's manuals are linked through the 3G Garage as well if you don't have a manual.

pohanka acura in N-VA, wanted $112. $43 for the oil change....i told the guy that i did'nt want to do anything but the oil change. He then in shity tone said " OK i'm marking down that you do not want the dealer reccomended service, wich could void your warranty" , What a dick head, i told him that paying an extra $69 dollars for an tire rotation that i could get done for 20 some where else is stupid

Does having the dealer perform the A1 service when the B1 light indicator is on have any bearing on the warranty?

I only slightly mind paying a bit more for the oil change and tire rotation at the dealer, but they want $169 for the B1. I am headed in tomorrow and told them to do the A1 service.

I am expecting they will try and pressure me to do the B1, and make claims about the warranty. Just want to be prepared.....

Thanks

I'm confused. My dealer just told me that a B1 service is just an oil & filter change, no tire rotation or anything....He wants $30 for the service.

I cut and pasted this from other posts... somewhere I have seen on these forums the definition of the 1, 2, 3 etc.

The A or B has its own meaning, then the number(s) define some other service.

For a B1 service, the below are for a B service. The 1 means rotate the tires.

An A service is just change the oil and oil filter. So for a B service, it adds a lot of inspections for quite a bit of money. At least in PA.

Replace engine oil and oil filter
Inspect front and rear brakes
Check parking brake adjustment
Inspect these items:
Tie rod ends, steering gearbox, and boots
Suspension components
Driveshaft boots
Brake hoses and line (including ABS)
All fluid levels and condition of fluids
Exhaust system
Fuel lines and connections

Well you got a discount because they wanted $183 from me for the B1, he said he would give me a loaner.
