wood in the interior of 2004 TL

Has anyone heard whether the new TL will have a wood (fake or real doesn't matter) in the car? I know the Accord has it. The second generation TL has it. From the spy shots it doesn't appear to have it. I for one will be upset and dissappointed if it is not there. Especially if that plastic black colored stuff is there instead. Feed back appreciated.

From the looks of it, its fake. I guess Acura feels only the RL deserves/needs real wood. Some "plood" aka plastic wood looks decent, the plood in my TL looks good. The TSX plood looked good enough for my taste as well.

To keep the price down, I'm sure that the TL will have plastic instead of real wood. It's amazing just how expensive the wood is to add. I need to replace a piece of scratched wood in my GS. $350.00 for just one small piece. You're still getting the best bang for your buck with the TL.

If real wood is a concern, save yourself the cash and buy a wood trim dash kit, they're nice, let you pick the color/surface you'd like and pretty easy to install, i put it in my '97 TL (Mahogany, just like the shift knob) it looks great, cost me about $850 including installation.

Whats wrong with that, 97 isnt that old bud. I'm sure his car is in great shape and probably runs better than some later model ones.

My car runs great, looks wonderful and I plan on keeping this car for years, so why not? It would be different if it were in bad shape and I wasn't planning on keeping it for a long time. Besides, I got this kit for about half off and free installation.

dont get me wrong i drive a 98 Toyota Avalon and love it..

I was just saying $850 is a hefty price to pay, even for headers or anything, let alone looks.. Most people would not pay that much for a 2003 Car, so it struck me as odd when you said you spent so much money on a wood trim.. I guess everyone has diff priorities

Hey YOU GOT PICTURES!

I redid the leather and the wood, thats about it. The car drives fine and its fast enough for my needs. The leather is a bit lighter than the original and is much higher quality (got new vinyl on the sides to match as well), the wood also looks more "red" than the original "plood".

Free, I had a friend who owed me since I refer a lot of customers to him. He said it would cost around 2000 though, its nice leather about equal to what you'd find in a Lexus or Benz.

that important???

I don't think real wood is that important as having bigger wheel. It's for decoration only, who cares if it's wood-like plastic! I don't touch, or smell, or knock on it while driving. Wheels are more important, take away real wood and I don't care. But give me bigger wheels and tires... Or save that money for future AWD TL!

Its all about priorities. If i find some Legend GS wheels (16 inches) I'll put them on my car, to me its not a big deal, no one makes judgments about me because of the wheels on my car. Cheers

I totally agree with most of your comments thus far. I too have no preference to Plood or the real stuff. It is for decor only.

ken 1997, sweet interior!

I've always loved the 1st gen Tl, very solid cars IMO

Alsom you must remember, i've seen some cars w/real wood that look like fake wood...the new acura wood on the other hand, i.e. tsx looks very real, very convincing

Thumbs down Bad choices given on plood or black plastic

I just found out on another thread that AHM has struck again with backwards reasoning. Alledgedly depending on the interior color choice you will be given either plood or black plastic accents on the dash and such. I was looking forward to a Quartz interior but just found out Acura considers this a "sporty" color and as such will get the "sporty" black plastic and the Camel or Parchment interiors will get plood. I for one have never thought of a car color as "sporty" rather reserved that opinion for the car itself. My only hope is that the plood kit is available to purchase separately and have installed to replace the "cheap looking" but "sporty" black plastic throughout my very sporty new expensive 2004 TL! I would appreciate any feedback and suggestions.

2004 TL-----
Everybody should be allowed to have their choice. IMHO the black plastic just looks cheap! I have a Honda Civic EX cpe that I put the wood kit in, and quartz leather. The change from original made it very comparable to the Integra of that year (94). It takes the same placement on each kit so my hope is that I can purchase the plood as was available on the 03 models.

Your car looks great. Still have my 98TL and the interior is mint. The leather seats are still perfect. Just a slight bit of wear on the stitching to my center armrest some 56,000 miles later. Floor mats are double matted so they are in excellent condition too. I also benefit from Florida weather so that helps with saving the floor mats and carpet as I remeber the days when dirty snow and sleet was a hack with keeping my cars interior clean when I lived north. Wheels are cool and I think important too but, the interior is where I am at and its got to look perfect and satisfying for my everyday commutes. Have to say that My previous Vigor (real wood) and my Tl both held up awesome through the years as far as interior quality. I own a Autobody Shop and BMW and Mercedes seem to have some quality control as the years pass on there interior pieces. Lexus Audi and Acura customers come in with older models that just hold up to the time and mileage and wear. Thats my personal and professional observation.

Not sure what you have, but you can not compare the Benz leather to Lexus. The Germans seem to do leather so much better than the Japs. IMHO, Jag has the nicest leather
