Windshield Ding Dilema

I recently sustained a windshield ding while driving down the highway. It wasn't quite as big as a dime in diameter. I really didn't want to submit another claim to my insurance company and with the temperatures here in Dallas reaching the 100+ I didn't want to run the risk of the ding spreading. As this would be my third claim (all for the same reasons) in about four years. I called one of these mobile windsheild repair companies which applied some type of resin to the ding. The resin did pretty well in covering most of the ding, but unfortuantely it left a shadow or snowflake effect that apparently won't go away. It's also right in the filed of my vision, so it's not like you can't or won't see it. I told the repair guy I wasn't going to pay because the job wasn't completed to my satisfaction. I told him I would wait one week to see if this shadow or snowflake will go away. It's only been since the weekend but it appears it's not going to go away. Given that, should I now demand that they replace my windshield or should I submit this to my insurance company and let them go after this repair place?

Did the guarantee it will go away?

I'd do the right thing... Having the repair guys replace your windshield seems opportunistic. How did you get the ding? Was it debris from some truck? you should really go after that truck's insurance company...

Well this happend to me twice in a span of 4 months... The first time (350z) it happend near the registration sticker, lower corner driver side... (NYC puts registration there) I ignored it... till it happend the second time (TL) I couldn't ignore it, it was right on the center, not on the field of view but was more than a simple starburst... it was the size of a pencil... straight crack/fracture... called up geico they said stop by a collision place they will send me to the best place available... Got a new windshield in 3 hrs

Go through your insurance company. It's a no-fault comprehensive claim so your rates wont go up. I don't think you would stand a chance of getting the windshield repair place to pony up a new one. They didn't break it. Insurance companies are willing to pay for defects in windshields especially if the defect is in the line of sight. Sure is cheaper than paying a whole lot more due to a accident caused by someone looking at a defect instead of the road.
