Windshield cracked

A rock hit me and my windshield completley cracked. About 8-9 spider webs in the glass. I filed a report with the cops and he said nothing.

I can't afford to get a new windshield if they run $600. Can I go to junkyard and get a windshield from a random 3G TL? What can I do? I can't even drive the car the crack is that bad.

My luck fucking sucks. I just washed and waxed the car 2 hours ago and this fucking shit happens.

You can afford 5 cars, but not a windshield?

Sell one of the cars....

It's called insurance dude. Check to see if you have glass coverage. And what did you want the cops to do?

I really hope you're not driving a TL and 5series around with just liability.

Check with insurance. Most will repair a nicked windshield for free, and charge you your lower deductible (forget what it's called), if you need a brand-new windshield.

But if you must pay out of pocket, there are plenty of aftermarket windshields aout there. Hard to find a good one, though.

My parents can afford it... but I take responsibility for the cars. My parents bought me the car. All the modding that goes into my cars is paid by me. Same goes for any damage that happens when I am driving the car.

Why should I trouble my parents? I was clearly driving so I think its my own responsibility to pay for it. They bought me the car its the least I can do.

I've been though this 3 times and about to do my 4th time. My insurance covers it but the glass can be replaced for $550 with the correct acousti glass if you shop around and my deductible is $500. Not worth filing a claim. It really sucks but there's nothing you can do if you want it done right. You can get a normal non acoustic windshield for about $180 installed if you look around. You will have a little more wind and road noise with it. I had one installed for about a week and got rid of it. It's not real bad and I doubt passengers would notice it but it bugged me and the replacement was free since it was part of a big insurance claim.

All 3g windshields are interchangeable.

So do you have glass coverage or not? If you do, you're gonna tell us that you'd rather pay hundreds of bucks and replace it yourself instead have your parents make a five minute phone call and have it be over in a day and probably be free of any charge?

I just did glass on my Tahoe and it didn't cost me a penny and they did it while I was at work...fyi

Then just pay the deductible if it's less than the cost of a new windshield. Insurance is there for a reason, use it! It won't go up from this stuff. You're needlessly screwing yourself over.

At least call your insurance and find out what kind of covereage you have.

If your parents can afford it, have them replace it and pay them back over a couple months. You have a very good attitude about that, better than most people whose parents bought them a TL but there's nothing wrong with a loan as long as you pay it back. That's assuming there's no other way such as insurance.

Sorry I left out a detail. The rock hit me right before a bridge overpass and I am 99% sure someone threw it. I pulled into gas station and a lady said something hit her roof and she had a nice big dent. She got hit right before entering the bridge over pass.

Same bridge just 4 days ago teenagers were throwing small ping pong balls. My friend got his 335 hit with 2 ping pongs. Thats why I even bothered to get a report.

I made that mistake once, this last time. I got pegged by a diesel carrying gravel. Flipped a U and caught him but I had to stay way back because it was like a hail storm behind the truck. Managed to get his license and reported it. I had a dispatcher on the line for quite a while. During that time I was flashing my lights and honking the horn and he wouldn't pull over. I passed him and started slowing him down, forcing him to stop. The CHP showed up and they waved me off before I got him all the way stopped. They took a report, let him leave, and I was basically screwed after that. Lesson learned, beat the hell out of the driver next time, don't call the cops.

i hate cars-I love your posts. They are very detailed and informative. If I go to a junkyard and find a 2004 TL with a windshield can I just take it and have them install it on my car? My cracks are not fixable correct?

There's a sheet of laminate between glass layers that holds it all together. You'll be fine for local driving until you can get it fixed. I wouldn't take it on a high speed road trip though.

You can get the OEM windshield done for about $250 or even less if you shop around. Here you go:

OEM says $550 on that site. Insurance is $1k for deductible. I don't think it will be covered. My best bet would be to find a 3G TL at junk yard and take the windshield.

Is your comprehensive deductible actually $1000? If so that's horrendous and you need to find a new agent/insurance company. I had to pay my $250 deductible last spring a month after I got my car when a rock cracked my windshield on the freeway and the Autolite-national glass company took care of it in my driveway with a new windshield. The total cost was around $350, and my insurance did not increase one single penny for making a comprehensive claim.

lol there is a shop here in socal that installs AP Tech glass for $170 out the door. I bet there's no shop like that around you huh? It's probably the best windshield shop in the whole world. installation quality is excellent and pricing is unheard of. Remember, AP Tech is OEM glass, no difference whatsoever and has the acoutic technology thing.

here is a link to the shop if you dont believe me: http://www.yelp.com/biz/dr-auto-glass-arcadia

Actually it is. I had a shop here that would do it for $200 but I didntbtrust their quality of workmanship. I posted clear pics in my other thread exactly to avoid all the misinformation floating around on windshields.

i'll bet it is. you're just doubtful because you're jealous you dont have a shop that cheap around you. its made by APTECH. go to your car, look at your windshield, what does it say? ACURA APTECH. check out this thread for proof: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ech+windshield

so now you lost the bet.

AP Tech also makes much cheaper non-OEM, non-acoustic glass, as does PPG and Pilkington. This glass is not guaranteed to meet OEM specifications or thickness which is why it's so cheap.

Just because they sell a windshield made by AP Tech doesn't mean it's made to OEM standards and/or acoustic glass.

Go back and read posts #15 and #23 in that link...

He doesnt necessarily need a new agent.

Rather, a new/revised plan. Prob chose 1k deductible to save money on the monthly insurance payment. You can choose what deductible to pay..its not like he had no choice in the matter.

My windshied cracked a couple of weeks ago.

I used Safelite. They charged $280 for a new glass and a lifetime warranty. They even came to me and installed it in my garage. Works for me.

When you ask the glass shop for OEM glass made by AP Tech they will get you the one made to match OEM specs. Make sure those numbers on the logo match up and you're good to go.

Also for the skeptic who thinks that unless it costs $500 to $700 it's non-acoustic, I shared those sentiments myself in the beginning. Called many glass shops and talked to many many people in the business. The one made by AP Tech with the same numbers represents the identical windshield minus the logo. As a matter of fact when I spoke to an Acura service adviser he told me that the windshields are made in the same plant right next to one another.

That $170 price is cheap but I do believe it because I had 3 shops quote me over the phone of $200 and I'm in NY where prices are jacked up. I then went to this reputable shop who specializes onle in automotive glass based on rave reviews and they quoted me $275 cash but I chose to go through insurance andbthey billed them $500 about.

Insurance windshield question.

So Acura OEM glass is $900 for my windshield. But safelite is $300. When I file my claim for my windshield can I ask them I want the Acura glass for $900? Then get the safelite glass for $300 and keep the $600 for mods? ?

My friend did this in his 3 series he spent less money because he got a custom hood/front bumper and bought a exhaust with the rest of the money.

Hmm...I've had the windshield replaced in two of my previous vehicles and I paid my deductible $200 and the insurance covered the rest. Sounds like your friend got a smokin' hookup on the windshield with the extra mods.

On another note, search for Inaccurate's thread on windshields. He has a thread about our OEM windshields that would probably help you out.

My friends windshield was cracked by a chunk of ice...he went to a expensive shop to get a quote who quoted him around $2000 all said and done. He then took the check and bought safelite glass for $300.

The other $1700 was his. He could have bought a watch with the money.
