Okay, I commute 30 miles (each way) mostly on freeway. Normally, I am stuck in stop-and-go traffic and can only get about 22-24. However, this week, I've been coming in early and leaving late. So, on just a little more than 1/2 a tank, here are my stats:
AVG MPG: 27
AVG MPH: 40
Distance: 225
Time - 5:36
Beat that for your commute!

Hoopz, you mean to tell me that you are going to be in the right lane doing 65 mph in a 70 mph zone on 40 and 95? The old lady's are gonna be passing you in the Buick giving you the finger because you are driving to slow. How old are you? The car at 80 mph will still get 30 mpg all day long. Is it really worth the savings when you can shave 30 minutes off your time? The TL is a great car on gas. Drive the thing like you are supposed to. Good luck with the trip, but I bet you a hundred that you don't last at 65 mph. I drive route 40 all the time and there is nothing on the road. Let us know how you do.

You'll make it.
I drive 15 miles each way to work on surface streets where the speed limit is 40-50. There's about a light a mile, and I usually make about 1/4 of them green. I get 27 mpg doing this. Thursday, I had 380 miles on the odo, and put in 14 gallons.
I've gotten 32 doing 75 from Tucson to Phoenix and back.
...But, I'd fill up before that anyway; you never know when you could get stuck in traffic for an hour or more; happens on the way to Phoenix all the time when there is an accident.

You can beat the mileage you get with cruise control if you are smooth enough. The goal is to move the gas pedal as little as possible. Some folks are on the gas, then off, then on, etc; that kills mileage.

Best I've gotten on my '04 manual was in September, '05. Had a late start on a vacation trip, leaving around noon. Temperature was 86, traffic was moderately heavy but moving. Trip was south bound from 29 to 17 to 95. Speed was 62 to 73 to 78. A/C was on the entire time. My calculated mileage on the first leg (260 miles) was 33.94 MPG. This was when the car had the factory EL42 tires on it.
