will i make it!?!?! (road trip)
hey guys.. i am going from wilmington, N.C. to Towson, M.D. this coming friday...
it is a total of 440 miles...
if i go a steady 65mph and set the cruise control, i should most certainly make it on one tank, correct?

Yeah, I was able to get 35mpg coming from the UConn show, I only had 2.5gallons maybe two gallons of gas in the car and I drove 70mi.
So you figure 17.5Gallons x 35 = 612.5miles
*edit* I'll post trip meter pics soon.

It all depends on when you get close to Northern VA/DC area, cuz even 95 that it has 4 lanes gets backed up like a mofo. and 495 can take you 2+ hours to drive 20 miles, if that. Thats why its gonna be difficult, unless you leave oh lets say 11pmish. That way you get through NOVA and DC before anybody is really on the roads. and 95 turns 4 lane approximately 60 miles (if I remember correctly) before 495.
Edit: I know its possibly to get 500 miles on the TL. I've done it ONCE driving 65mph on cruise. Refilled and took in 15.5-16 gallons (that was on my drive from VA to MO)

will I make it?
Based on experience, you can make it under ideal conditions. You should be fine if your car is in tune, you hold your speed steady, and especially - you don't run into any traffic. Running the AC will hurt you less that driving with the windows open.
Don't forget that you will have some local traffic at each end. I'd play it safe; it will cost you more in aggravation, as well as $, if you run out.
Good luck,
Ranger

I always set the temp to HI and then press off because even if you have it off it still blows air, I don't know why, but it does. And I noticed if the temp is low the A/C will be running, well sort of.
I had my windows down when I posted that pic, I'll show another one for you guys, if the highway was flat I would have kept it up longer but dumb hills ruined it.
I'll post it in 4mins.

This was earlier in that trip, when I got on the highway but like I said I couldn't hold it up for long going uphill, so it fell to 35mpg.
It spiked to >50 too.

Hehe, even if the math works out. Doing 65mph thru the Washington area of I95? Assuming you miss the rush hour, even grandpa will try to run you off the road at that speed.

it's a car-drive it
You might be able to do it but I personally would not take the chance. Never know if there will be accidents or other things that could cause you to be stuck.
I travel from Wilmington (actually Hampstead)NC to NJ and back every few weeks. I set the cruise to 73 on 40 (speed limit is 70) try not to go more than 5 miles over the speed limit on 95. I stop at the WaWa in Fredricksburg, Va (exit 130-a or b) to fill the tank, empty the bladder and take a mini-break. Alot of schools are on spring break this week-traffic could be a little more hectic-even in the night hours.

i do about 90-100 everytime i shoot from nyc to fl. but i have a valentine 1 and a diffuser in the car.....so im willing to take the risk. when i didnt have that stuff i was doin like 80 the whole way. and when u go through VA dont take I95 when you see on a sign showing a highway I-295 take it..... it'll join 95 later on (about 43miles) and skip over washington n richmond all together. plus theres a ton less traffic.

In regards to the 295. There is a 295 in DC which will take you through the heart of DC. And then another one by richmond which is the bypass, I really dont see a need for the bypass in richmond I always just stayed on 95. Dont know how you been able to bypass DC AND Richmond at one time

As long as you dont get provoked to speed, ricer civics and/or G35s etc. (they get me everytime, lol) and stay at a consistent speed, you'll be fine.
