I'm actually excited about this car now. I didn't think that it came with the A-Spec kit. I've been in contact with the owner, and he works at a local Acura dealer. $22,500 for this car is pretty good, especially considering the mileage and the bodykit. Carfax is clean.

I'm taking a look at the car tomorrow on my way back from the airport. What type of collateral should I leave if I decide to take it to a mechanic to have it checked out? Or should I give the seller the address of my mechanic and tell him to meet me there?

Has anyone ever bought a car from a private seller? How did the money situation work out?
I was preapproved by USAA for $22,000 for this car, but the seller wants $500 more than that and is form. That's fine. Car is in great shape. I want to pay down that amount from the value of my totaled Accord of $7,752, plus another ~$600 in taxes being withheld (which they say I will get back once I pay the sales taxes on the new car), plus another $1000 on my end. So I want to put down about $9,300 of the $22,500. How would this work out with USAA and his bank, and how should I go about getting the title (he doesn't have it as the bank does and he said would ship it to him)?

That colour will probably show dye transfer more, but you'll probably be thankful for a white/white car in the sun.
Why not meet him somewhere and drive it to the mechanic? It'll give you more time to get acquainted with the car.

As far as the title goes, Nissan shipped me the title a few weeks later, and I called the guy to come pick it up and I signed it over to him.

Just FYI for the future, putting down a deposit is useless because if the dealer finds a buyer that wants the car and is willing to buy it before you can take a look at it, they're going to sell it to them and give you back your 200 bucks and say "sorry."

The way it worked for me was that, the Guy I bought the car off of came to my bank with me. My bank got the payoff authorization from his bank and my bank cut him a check for whatever was left. Then his bank mailed the title to my bank then it all was set.

^^^That...
When I was selling my RSX-S I didn't want the new buyers to KNOW how much I owed so I put the money I owed on a credit card so they'd send me the title directly.
The above sounds right though, you go with the seller to the bank, have your bank pay the payoff amount and they ensure that the title will be transferred over, then they will cut a check for the rest for the seller.
Good luck, man! Looking forward to the inevitable "Not a new member, but just picked up the TL-S that I've been having nocturnal emissions for the last x number of years!" ...

That white one is beautiful. The seats could use a good leather cleaning but that is nothing you can't handle. I love the TL-S in white it is a great color especially with the gunmetal wheels.

Jim, IMHO if you don't love the white don't get it. Get the color your waiting for. I realize your in a crunch to get a new car but at the same time you don't want to regret it.
Good luck.

If it was available this july I would get on a Jet ASAP with a cashiers check !!!
WDP IS #1

A few months back I was considering another color besides the WDP I want, then I even accepted the light color leather ( because its Much cooler in the summer) I realized if I settled for something other than my favorite color(WDP) I would regret it. And eveytime I would see another WDP TL, I would be pissed that I didnt get what I REALLY WANTED.
I will wait patiently until July 1st when I will have $25,000 cash. And then wait patiently UNTIL I find an 07-08 WDP Type-S with ebony/silver leather.
Nothing else !!!
Hope this helps.
I have owned 2 silver TL's in the past. When I bought them, I preferred the silver. But after joining AZ I quickly learned how AWESOME the WDP Type-S looks with tint

I looked at the car. It was in great shape, and it even had the body kit on it.
Here is how USAA (who will own the car until I pay it off) saif the process should go:
I should use a check from my bank from whatever money I want to pay down, in this case $9,300 and pay the seller that amount. He would then give me possession of the car so that I can do the inspection from my mechanic. The seller would then cash the check on Monday and pay down his loan from AHF. AHF would then contact my bank (USAA) and let them know the loan balance, which would be about $13,400, and THAT be the amount that I would finance. AHF would then ship the seller the title, and he would sign it over to me.

It does... I would take it to get an inspection first in case there is something wrong with the car. I left my car as collateral one time, and another time the guy just went with me. Then go with him to the bank.
I'm just saying that's putting a lot of trust in some random person....

I'm hoping to get the car inspected on Sunday, and get his loan information from him on Monday.

Uh. The seller has been very lacking with communication.
I'm thinking about this one 155 miles from where I am.

It's amazing, it's like when you're spoken for, you think there are all these girls you could FK...then you're single and you can't find any. I see TL's for sale all day long, the weeks my buddy was looking for one and I was helping, I couldn't find any that fit the bill that weren't banged up.

if you have to drive a ways to get the car, factor in distance to your advantage.
thats what i did when i bought my MS3. I told them to take it worth my 3.5 hour drive since i can always buy locally

the bronze one has a pin stripe as well
I say still try to work on the white. It is gorgeous and has the kit already on it which I would think is a big plus.
