Will Be Buying a Carbon Bonze Pearl 2008 Acura TL-S in One Day!

My Accord was totaled in an accident, and I might be getting a 2008 Silver Acura TL-S in Miami later this week. My friend is going to check it out for me, and a salesman confirmed that the car has never been smoked in.

I will post pictures if I end up buying it.

Price is a bit steep, kbb? You could find a 328i with nav for probably the same price, however I do understand how the TL is perfect replacement for the Accord and a better fit in your current stable.

OP a few details I see from the pics... I am only nick picking as if it were a car I am looking at...

1. Price to damn high for mileage/condition. But it is Miami...lol
2. Passenger seat the back panel coming off at the bottom.
3. Front bumper has a nick, and missing caps on the screws that hold the tag bracket thats not there.
4. The bypass shifter cover is missing.
5. The trimming that runs along the nav is peeling.
6. Battery cover missing under the hood.

thats just from pictures... seeing in person I might have 2 pgs... lol

All in all its not a bad car just bring that price down! And/or get everything fixed.

KBB prices it at $26.5K.

1. Price to damn high for mileage/condition. But it is Miami...lol - Agreed
2. Passenger seat the back panel coming off at the bottom. - Agreed. Fixable.
3. Front bumper has a nick, and missing caps on the screws that hold the tag bracket thats not there. - Agreed. Not a big deal. Probably a $2 fix if dealer can't fix.
4. The bypass shifter cover is missing. = Agreed. Probably a $2 fix.
5. The trimming that runs along the nav is peeling. - Agreed. Don't know if dealer could fix this. What is cost of new trimming from dealer? I could ask dealer to either replace (which they won't have in stock) or reduce cost of car by that amount.
6. Battery cover missing under the hood. - Agreed. Again, dealer probably won't have in stock. Would have to reduce price of car.

thats just from pictures... seeing in person I might have 2 pgs... lol

I'm thinking about offering $22,500 OTD, and they'll come back with something like $24,000. I don't want to pay more than $24K OTD.

The metal carbon fiber look a like trimming is about $200+ dollars at the dealer. Just for ONE side.

That, along with the battery cover, bypass cover plate, fixing the front bumper, and possibly other issues are why I'm going to try with $22K OTD first.

Damn sorry to hear about your Accord getting totalled gatr. I know you had put a lot of work into that car. Hopefully you will be able to get a good deal on the TL-S.

@ the interior color, but congrats on picking up a pretty clean TL-S. If it's really a CPO, then all of those issues with the missing battery cover, bumper plugs, etc. should've been taken care of prior to taking delivery since that should be part of their 150 points inspection.

I have a friend that just bought an 08 Base and he was making the rounds in Miami trying to find a clean one. It's amazing how many of these cars have lipstick on. Be careful and make sure your friend knows what to look for. The first car he bought ended up being badly wrecked on the side and upon first glance you couldn't really tell. 2nd one looked perfect to me for 3 days until I got up close and felt overspray on the door handles (this is a coworker too) and some places on the trim where the masking didn't cover.

That dealership isn't bad...come to think of it, it's the Acura dealership my TL comes from when my stepdad first leased it. But, Miami is Miami and a pristine car is hard to come by and an honest dealer, even harder.

I just saw another thread where they were posting up Type S's in automatic for about $18k or so...

HERE:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/found-one-853441/

Good luck with your quest!

I also dig carmax since they guarantee you won't be buying a POS.

Wow, I remember recently seeing a silver 2008 Type-s with 53K on it for $18,300 on Craigslist. If time is not an issue, I'd look around to see if you can find a better deal.

I think its priced way too high.

I had my 07 TLS (silver and auto also) on autotrader and black market here for 7 months (from 07/21/10 till 02/05/11). Had around 48k miles on it when I finally sold it for $18,500.

Congrats on the car!
I used to think that too, until I got a brand new TL as a loaner at my last service visit, I loved driving that car, felt better all around.

With regard to the OP, price is a little high. I bought my 07 last May for 24k with only 31k miles. Being it is a year later and higher mileage, I would be trying to get to 23-24 out the door like you said. It is a great car, but don't overpay for it.

So I put a $200 refundable deposit down on the car to hold it until I can personally look at it.

The cost to repair my Accord was more than 85% of the car's value, so it's officially totaled.

I have not received a 'bottom line' price from the salesman yet, but I expect to tomorrow. He e-mailed me his high internet ePrice of $24,795 ($200 off the Internet price )

I noted the following problems with the car just by looking at the pictures, along with the corresponding replacement cost through OEMACURAPARTS.com:

1.) Broken battery cover Battery Tray $43.33
Battery Sleeve $36.73
Battery Cover $21.68
Battery Lid Lock $2.61
2.) Delaminated metal trim Passenger console trim garnish $195.30
on center console Driver console trim garnish $176.40
3.) Broken shifter bypass Cover shifter plate trim $23.40
cover plate plug
4.) Missing front license plate plugs Front bumper plugs (2) $6.91 each $13.82
5.) Nick or gouge in front bumper Front bumper cover $218.79
6.) Paint for front bumper Front bumper repair $300 est.
7.) Passenger front seat back Passenger seat back $287.81
has to be replaced
8.) Reconditioning and repair of leather Repair leather $300 est.
9.) Scratch in navigation screen New display module assembly $2,119.33
10.) Steering wheel leather New A-Spec carbon fiber wheel $380.88
Is coming apart
SUB-TOTAL (PARTS): $4,120.08

I also know that insurance companies calculate insurance mileage by using 12,000 miles per year as the standard mileage allowance. This car should have no more than 48,000 miles. Since it has 8,797 miles more than the standard mileage, I'm going to deduct the Government rate of $0.50/mile from the price, which would equal a $4,398.50 deduction from the price of the car.

$24,795 (price of the car) - $4,120 - $4,399 = $16,276 (plus taxes, tag, and other fees)

There is no way the dealer is going to accept that amount, and they're going to laugh at me for the mileage deduction and the parts deduction. But KBB says a certified preowned car should be in excellent condition, and it's not in excellent condition.

This is all even before I even drive it or have looked at it in person.

I will ask $21K OTD to see what they say. I will not pay more than $23K OTD for this car.

OP the wear on the leather and steering wheel, is just part of wear and tear on the car its just the nature of it and on a car with miles like that its just a given, plus Acura leather just wears fast. It'll be pointless to point that out as they are going to look at u crazy, but hey its up to u on whatever will budge the price lower...

Maybe. I'm nitpicking obviously, however, I'm going to do that to point out every little thing that is wrong with the car.

I'm a little annoyed that the salesman has not gotten back to me today like the sales manager said he would.

Honestly with the list you have I would venture to say that the car was probably not well cared for. You will not get them to take that much off the price of the car. I would keep looking if you have the luxury of time.

That said, you are looking at a car that is almost 5 years old. There are going to be blemishes. Some of them you will have to live with.

A year older with less miles but listed at $21k which means you can probably get them to go lower. Seems to be in much much better condition as well. We have a few Houston members here as well that I am sure would be willing to go check it out for you too.

If you are set on the one in Miami here is the interior trim used on ebay for both sides for less than one piece from the dealer however even it isn't perfect still either.
