Thumbs down Why doesn't the trip computer have decimal places ?!

I want to see 27.7 MPG as 27.7 MPG, not 28 MPG!

The Honda CRV/any other Honda/Acura has decimal places, what gives?! Disappointing.

On new models it's accurate to that extent like on my MDX. I'm guessing that it's a ton of more calculations that the car has to do to spit out a number and it rounds some of it's calculations so there is a slight error thus even more rounding! I figure that if the computer gets 27.5-28.4 that it'll show 28 and that if it gets 26.5-27.4 it'll show 27 MPG and so on.

are you seriously that obsessed about this that you need to see that 0.2-0.3 difference? I bet you are one of those people who will calculate how much $ that is too

if you reset every tank, yeah sounds dumb. 27.7 @ 16 gallons is 443.2 miles. 27.9 @ 16 is 446.4...3 miles is tiny a difference.

if you leave it for 3k miles before resetting then .2 is still insignificant. it bugs me too. i just make sure i pay attention to it.

3k/27.7=108.3 gallons, @ $4 per gallon =$433.2
3k/27.9=107.5 gallons, @ $4 per gallon =$430.1

~$3.09 difference to be most exact.

smoke 12.36 less cigarettes on that trip and you'll get the same savings.

If the calculation and/or data gathering is not precise enough to correctly calculate 0.x, then displaying it is a waste of time.

My guess is the estimate is not accurate to +- 0.1 mpg, so it does not get displayed.

you do realize the readout does not affect the actual amount of gas you are using. It could read out 100mpg but it doesn't mean you are getting it. I think its ridiculously accurate considering every other car i've had is off by about 5, always reading high too.

You will not save any money calculating it or not, and $3 over 3000 miles...seriously? Why not make 1 less trip to the store every couple months and save more. Better yet why drive the car at all?

Sorry getting upset at this ridiculous thread.

Probably the same reason the EPA doesn't quote decimals in its mileage estimates- because its an ESTIMATE and not an absolute. I have to add that even in its integer form it's pretty darn accurate while the Nav Hack (estimate) in decimal format is not nearly as accurate. The Nav hack overestimates by +1 or +2 MPG so when I got the new DVD I didn't bother with implementing the hack since the MID is more accurate. If you drive a 200+ miles on a tank and fill up each time you will see for yourself how accurate the MID is.

Yeah, I have both and I like the Ultragauge better than the Scangauge II. The Ultragauge has a bigger/nicer display with more info (6 gauges vs. 4 on the SG) and auto dimming.

What I'm obsessed about is the FACT that the 2003/4/5 Accord Navigation system included an INSTANTANEOUS MPG Guage, something I feel very important in these times of unstable gas prices. And as far as I'm aware, the 4G TL doesn't have one either! As Acura buyers, we have every right to expect at least the same or better than a Honda buyer would get, NOT LESS!

Hey Acura, ?

Acura figures Acura owners are smart enough to know how to optimize mileage when they choose do so and therefore don't need any silly gauge that, on it's best day, is only a gross estimate of "instantaneous" mileage.

Just a theory.

Be happy you don't drive a Canadian model that shows L/100km. The difference from 9 to 10 or 10 to 11 is over 2 mpg. If a tenth bothers you...

But really, I judge my distance by the time I hit half tank, this week is the first time in a year I've been below half tank... Anyone else do this? Refill before/when she hits half tank.

I used to do this for the last several months then I just got lazy filling it up every 4-5 days cuz all I drive is local streets. From full to half tank I get about 150-160 miles. But today I took a trip to San Diego and half tank I got about 210 miles. Sorry but just a out of a topic question, is it normal to get 25 mpg going at 70-80 mph ? I think I got better when I first got the car.

I just did a run to Newport Beach area from San Diego and 25mpg is good if you already had miles on your tank. For example, I started my trip with 35 miles on my tank with an average of 16MPG. It took 50+ miles on the the Highway to break 22MPG. I was going 70-75 and know the car does about 28-30 MPG at that speed.

The MID calculated MPG checks out with simple math:

35 miles x16 = 560
50 miles x28 est MPG =1400

1960/85 miles = 23.05 est MPG (my MID read 22)

So the take away is that it takes ALOT of highway miles to work off a MPG hit.

I've always kept track of my fuel mileage, then when I was bored one night I loaded all my notebook (my Dad started me on this) into an Excel spread sheet. Since I got my TL I have tracked the MPG on both the car and the chart. Usually the chart is 1-2 mpg lower than the car. I usually reset at every fill-up too.

Anybody else ever checked the MID against their own calculations?
