Why does Edmunds.com undervalue the TL so much ?

It shows the 2008 TL type S with below average miles being a TOTAL OUT THE DOOR PRICE VALUE of $23,400. What!?

That seems like a very good deal, meanwhile KBB states $24,900 for Private Party FAIR.

Confused.

Edmunds:
2008 Acura TL Type-S
Used TMV from $25,356

Different sources used for the calculations.

As asking prices are all over the map, these tools are to be used as guidance. Even the Acura CPO site has a NBP 2008 TL-S, 38k miles $24495 and another dealer has a NBP 2008 TL-S, 46k miles $28775. With higher mileage along with a $4280 higher asking price, guess we could ask, why the different, but there is no straight forward set pricing on the various models, just what the public will shell out.

KBB is always high and dealers use NADA for trade values. If you go to a dealer expecting to pay KBB for a used car, they will probably give you a hug when you sign to buy.

Edmunds tends to be waaaaaay off true market value for some cars. They had my 95 Miata M-Edition in good condition with 75k miles listed as $1,800. Good luck actually finding one anywhere in the country for even double that! I find I need to check all the major sites when looking for values and then search autotrader.com to get a feel for what the real world price actually is.

The rarer a car is, the worse the estimate of value will be. If they don't have any real world transactions to base the price on, they just guess by extrapolating depreciation. The further away from average (mileage, condition, or other) the worse the estimates are going to be. Though you do have to remember that any modifications have a negative value to many people, despite their cost.
