Why does the 08 acura get a dependablity rating of 2.5?

In this article the first car is an 08 Acura tl but the dependability rating is a 2.5, and the next one is an Audi a6 and a BMW 5 series and they have 4.5 and 5. In the article they mention those rating and say that means its low maintenance. I have owned an Audi a4 and it had numerous problems and my 04 tl is just great. Anyone have any reasons this may be?

08 MDX, 04 TL (sold)

There's no way the 2005 BMW 530i should be twice the dependability rating of a 2008 TL. That's almost the exact car my brother-in-law has and it seems his is constantly in the shop. My first 110k miles on my '04 TL were completely trouble free with only a single visit to the shop aside from regular maintenance items (fluid changes and brakes). The only visit to the shop was to have the dealer replace the BlueTooth mic which was crackling. Covered under warrantly back around 40k.
That said, the electronics and little things that you see folks on this forum complaining about are probably what drive the reliability rating down. Seems a lot of people keep going back and forth to the dealer to fix minor issues or electronics issues.
Also, there have been a lot of tranny issues over the years, perhaps this is pulling the reliability rating down as well.
I suppose we gotta ask JD Power how they come up with that number to get the real answer.

AOL Autos? I wouldn't listen to them.
If you want actual useful info on a car's reliability, stick with Consumer Reports.

it's a car-drive it
depends on who is responding to these surveys. I guess more happy bmw and audi owners responded. I personally had audis that spend more time at the dealer service dept than me driving them. Never owned a bmw and really have no desire. Yes I could afford them.
