Why is the license plate tag number blurred when we post a picture of a car on the internet? This has always caught my attention as something strange. Maybe I am missing something important about the value of the tag number. We see tag numbers all day long as we drive down the street. What could you do with a tag number? copy it? Should I blur my tag more often? What’s the point? Your thoughts?

well as the story goes with the freedom of information act... if you have the plate number, for a fee you are able to get the person driver's license number. And, if you use your SS number on your license, you can steal the identity of a person and start buying those 500HP trucks with the naked lady mud flaps...
There was a show on this a few years back on tv where someone saw someone in a nice ride and paid like 10 bucks and got their license number and started running up a debt. the person did not know this was going on until he applied for a loan for his business. His credit was completely tapped out and ruined.
Blurr your plate and use a different license number than your SS number.

I think the biggest worry, is they will look up your address, and know where to steal certain parts. If you have your ride all customized, especially. Or if you piss someone off on the board, they could come and key your car or something.
I think it is just being smart, there are more than a few crazies among us.
