Who's the guilty party?
I just bought a Sony/Ericsson T616 yesterday from AT&T for a trial period.
I paired the phone with the TL without too much hunting around. Everything appeared to work OK. So, this morning I tried my first phone call.
There were complaints on both ends: My voice sounded tinny and hard to understand to the person on the other end. On my end, their voice was loud enough, but highly distorted.
I tried about a dozen HFL phone calls, with similar or worse results. Non-HFL calling on the T616 was OK.
So, who is the culprit? Is it a bad Bluetooth / HFL implementation on the TL, or is it the S/E T616?

The quality of my T68i is terrible. Cracks and static all the time using the Bluetooth radio.
It's not the fault of the TL HFL because it sounds the same with my Jabra Bluetooth headset. It also is highly unreliable as a BT modem with my ipaq. Personally I just think that SE Bluetooth radios are crap and as such, I keep doing my damnedest to break this phone to justify purchasing another BT phone from another manufacturer. But alas, this cheap squeaky plastic phone is pretty much indestructable.......sigh..........

(1) How do I find out what firmware version I currently have?
(2) How do I download the upgrade?
Thanks!

To find your firmware version, assuming my SE T608 is at all similar to your T616, try Menu/Settings/Other/Phone Info, then scroll down to a line that says "SW:[your version number]". Sprint phones have go into the store for a firmware update, but tower data updates can be fed over the air. I don't know if AT&T operates the same way, but you can find that out at the forums also.

Well, I think I have the latest firmware version (R1B027), so the firmware probably isn't the problem.
Warning! Use the following information at your own risk!
For those of you interested in finding out your T616 firmware version number, you can try the following:
Use the following key sequence (where <= means push the joystick to the left; => to the right, and * means press the * key):
=>
*
<=
<=
*
<=
*
Then, select "Service Info." and then select "SW Information".
From what I saw on other boards, the latest firmware version is R1B027 (I also see a prgCXC11-22569.MARTHA and prgCXC11-22579.TAE, which I understand to be correct as well).
The only thing I'm wondering about is at the bottom, where I see an "ITP Version R1A030 PRGCXC1122568.TP". I wonder if that's correct?

It's a pretty good phone, very small and pocketable, excellent reception & sound quailty, and works flawlessly with the HFL. Battery life could be better, especially with bluetooth enabled. Only thing I don't like about it is the screen. It lacks both brightness and contrast, and I can't read it while wearing sunglasses.
If you really want one, you'd better hurry. They were a very limited production run, and when they're gone, that's it, they're gone (if not already). I've read on the wireless boards that Sprint has newer bluetooth phones in the works for later this year. Sometimes you can catch a preview at www.phonescoop.com.

Both my wife's and my T68is work flawlessly with the 04 TL. The car's system sounds better than any headset I've used. That includes a rather expensive SE BT Wireless rig I have.

sprint is about to have [actually you can buy it on phone sales only] the t600 I believe which is the only bt phone for sprint. so are you saying that sony ericsson is to be avoided? that sucks.
