Exclamation Who else has a good 04 Tranny???

My tranny is still fine... For Now. So I dont think this qualifies under the problems & fixes thread.

But my question is: How many 04 TLers out there with no tranny issues?
I would think that only the people with tranny issues voice their complaints on these threads. I HOPE!

But as far as my details, I have an SSM 04 TL with 52K miles, I do have the 100K certified warranty but am now just finding out that the tranny is not really covered under it...WTF!
Makes me wonder what is covered?

I hope I dont have to go to extremes & dump my car for something else. Unless the tranny is affordable?

I am a bit weary... So lets hear from the GOOD TRANNY 04's out there...

ARE YOU OUT THERE?
Maybe starting a POLL would help?

Never had a problem of any kind with my '04 manual TL transmission or clutch assembly. At 63,100 miles, all is well.

Why wouldn't the trans be covered under the 7 yr 100K power train warranty?

You'll find a few transmission failures, but the vehicles without a problem will far overshadow those numbers.

gen3 A/T cars have the same issues in the clutch packs that gen2 had---the 04s were made right after the 03s....
A/T cars since ~mid 2005 use an improved trans case design (date guess based on change in warranty rebuilt units effective ~2-05...it worked, so the fix went into production at some point)- as well as the 2nd gear external oil kit went internal

the extended warranty policy very specifically limits or allows certain parts- read your contract to know whats covered--and how they can exclude things, especially like lowered cars and cv joint failure

If A/T car- get on a fluid change schedule right now- it will help and if a problem later- acura likes proof that you were doing your best at helping

Mine went out at 50k - new one replaced for free under 100k warranty. If you have the 100k extended warranty the tranny is DEF covered.

I've always done it myself, but here's some info:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/atf-change-698298/

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/when-change-atf-3g-non-type-s-tl-694443/

No need to go overboard as the fluid is good for 100K under normal driving conditions regardless of what some might say. The red dye will dissipate over time and the fluid will turn dark which is perfectly normal. I say 60K is a good time to do the 3 x 3 change, but if one wants to change it more often, it certainly can't hurt, just the wallet.

the fluid is NOT good till 100k miles!!! get a test run on it and see for yourself
Acura says 30k for gen3 in the book doesnt it?
what does the service dept say?

Waiting till high miles, 80k +, has proved to be the death nail for gen2 with same transmission.

A car that flashed a warning light getting on the throttle- go get the codes read at parts store - do not clear them-
report back here with same and google the code numbers given
They are not diagnosis- they are clues

Could be knock sensor or may need intake manifold cleaning

My tranny died at 105k. Acura covered 90% of the cost after much discussion.
I better get at least 100k++ from this tranny.
I'm disappointed but I've heard Honda transmissions are known to have problems.

Good luck!!

x2... I read through my third-party extended warranty, and the transmission is covered, along with a few other things I would expected to have come out of my own pocket upon failure.

if it's going to fail, please do so before we hit 100k. I've got 75k to go...

120K and still good. Mine already had the wet/jet kit installed on it when i got it though.
( the hose to recirculate fluid because of lack of second gear properly being lubricated and over heating)

Right here, 04 automatic with about 53k miles and no problems with it.

I really think the stories of problems with our car's transmission are greatly exaggerated, but since people are far more likely to post their stories if something goes wrong compared to if everything is ok, that's all we hear about.

04 Automatic with 62,000 miles with no problems whatsoever.

I agree with Babnik above, I think people tend to jump to conclusions about 04s having a shitty transmission, but I knock on wood that mine stays as is

Now my 01 CL-S had to get a whole new transmission at 98,000 miles due to a recall. I'm sure all of you know what that entailed with the recall and all of that. Yes it was free, but it kept my car away from me for a day. As long as that doesnt happen with the TL, it's all gravy
