Where to go to get 07 key cut

So I have had this key for a while and haven't done anything with it yet. I went to Lowes today and they said they can't do it because it has an immobilizer. Then I went to the dealer Rosenthal Acura - He said they can't do it because their machine doesn't cut the groves out.

So what i need is for a place to mill down the blank so it is the same thickness as my 05 key and cut the groves in it.

If i remember correctly someone went to the Honda dealership but I think they would have the same equipment as Acura.

Any advice.

Call around to some of the locksmiths in the area. Tell them that you have a blank key and need it programmed. I found one that could program the immobilizer and cut the key at the same visit.

Aubuchon Hardware will take care of it for you. Brought in my new '05 key last month to get it cut. To my surprise, not only did they do an excellent job cutting it, they did it free of charge. I asked why free, both sales rep. responded I brought in my own key so no charge.

Thanks but the closest one to me is in NY. Not looking to travel that far.

I'm not sure why you're not paying this post attention; jda123 essentially offered you a low-cost and effective solution.

Hardware stores typically cut keys. A representative at Lowes had an opportunity to examine my Acura key and concluded they have the capability to cut but not program. Cutting alone allows for unlock/lock doors. Programming is typically done by the dealership. If you rather not pay to play then skip the dealership and pick up the phone and call locksmiths in your area as suggested by jda123.

I have called local locksmiths and they do not have the ability to program it which is the same reason why Lowes won't cut it. The associate at lowes told me that when they did cut automotive keys. people would not only unlock the door but also try to start the car which would damage the car and they got a few lawsuits. Thus he will not even cut it. This is the same answer I got from a few local locksmiths that they do not have the code nor they wouldn't because the key might be stolen( their answer).

But, I did stop by a Honda dealership and he said they have a milling machine and doesn't see a problem in getting the code from Acura to program it. The Parts Department was closed today on Sunday so i will try again tomorrow. And I need an oil change anyways so I can combine the two trips.

Flyer92: I did not mean to ignore jda123's post, I hope you were not offended by my actions. My deepest condolences if you felt hurt.

No offense was taken.

I'm skeptic about his lawsuit statement, sounds more fiction than fact. Most, if not all places, will not mill an owner provided key without separation of liability including dealerships.

What's the price at the Honda dealership for cut & program?

I just called honda and he said cutting will be free and he might charge for programming. His manager was on the phone so he couldn't comfirm. I think I read that someone got their's done at honda for <$30.

$30 is awesome. I paid 60 at a locksmith for 2 keys cut and programmed - I brought the keys.

I wish that I knew of a way to immobilize the immobilizer. The risk of my car getting stolen is nil and I would love to have 2 or 3 more keys to each car...

Let me know where you get it done sandals. FYI, you dont need to get it cut and programmed in the same place. You can get it milled somewhere and then programmed at the dealer. Somebody on the forums once ran a business where he milled down the newer keys to the smaller form factor that will fit the older cars, however the newer keys were still made of a harder metal that needed a mill or something to cut them and then a special honda key reprogrammer. You will need to bring ALL your keys to be programmed at the same time if you want them all to work (this includes the valet key)

Test to make sure that all keys fit and work and function as they should. When i reprogrammed my keys, my old master key no longer makes the car beep when i lock it 2x.

The honda dealer I called said the acura dealer probably has the equipment but either do not want to cut it or wont because I didn't buy the key from them. He also said that I need to bring the code to unlock the immoblilzer. He would check to make sure the immobilizer will work before he cuts it. For anyone that's interested I got this info from the Honda dealer in Germantown, md.

Nevermind. For an 07 TL I can cut the key free of charge, but the service depertment would charge 109 to program it.

where do you guys buy 07-08 switchblade keys that can be programed? I see some on ebay and they all say, WILL NOT WORK WITH MEMORY SEAT. So I am a little skeptical about getting them, I don't wanna pay 70-80$ for a key that can't be programed and used.

07-08 Acura TL's use switchblade keys by default. That's the factory key for the car.

Update: the Honda dealership would not cut it because apparently they don't have a milling machine. Then I went to a local locksmith and he told me " this is impossible and can not be done". He does not know anywhere in dc area that it could be done.

Use Heeltoe Automotive to get it milled and cut. Marcus over there does great work. I sent my key to him just before christmas holidays and got it back 3 days ago. Took it to by my dealer for programming and it works like a charm!

It's going to be hard to find someone that can do it for u in your local area.
