Whats your best MPG off a tank

damn guys
I have an 06 - and i get MAX 10 L/100km (canadian mesure); which is--> 23.5 MPG
i recently took a trip to newyork from toronto and it seemed to saty the same although it was mostly highway crusing with cruise control
do you think that its because my engine is new?

wow how in the world are you guys managing to average great gas millage on your car? I was getting about 320 miles to the tank on the highway when I was going to california.

18 so far.... only 618 miles on the car.... gone through 2.5 tanks... average speed on the mid is about 25mph... hoping that it breaks in a bit and at least get me to 22 - 23 mpg..

32MPG, coming from Augusta back to Atlanta.
Daily driving, I average a little over 21MPG.

Folks- the original question was asking your best MPG off a tank of gas. Not your best mileage for the 40 minutes you spent going 65 following a truck downhill.
You need to fill up, set the trip to zero, drive until your next fill, fill up again, divide the trip miles by the gallons you just put in and get the MPG on that tank.
The MID numbers are not that accurate.

06' Auto, 7,000 miles. Never had anything above 22mpg. Last trip trip to KC all highway was still 22mpg both ways. The display has been acurate with 1-2 mpg. Don't know why I'm not seeing better mpg after 7,000 miles..

My best has been 25, by the way, with the lowest just over 20. Car is 2 months old, 3500 miles.
It's interesting to note the "range" given by the MID is way lower than it should be, on mine anyway. Before my last fill it was down to about 20 miles. When I filled up it took about 13.5 gallons, meaning there was still 4 gallons in the tank- at least 80 miles worth.
Anyone else notice this?

ok the best MPG I have recorded on a tank of gas was 26.31 MPG. Calculated on 5/16/2005. A lot of that was highway miles, because I came back from Augusta on that tank. when I got back home that night my MID said 32MPG. The city driving brought it back down.

Actually, I think it will be sufficient to take the number of gallons filled into the tank divided by the miles travelled between gas fillings if you were to reset the trip meter every filling.

If I had to guess optimal speed for best mpg (5AT), I would say 50 (this is just after it shifts to overdrive in a 5AT).
Obviously it isn't feasible to drive that speed on the freeway for extended periods. However when I got 35 mpg on a tank, I was driving 62-65. I think the optimal speed that is also feasible to drive is between 62 and 65.
