What is your average mph?
I'm curious to see what others' MIDs are showing. Mine is at 17mph right now. Our redlight system is the worst I've ever been in. The timing is such that it's impossible to catch a green light. I stop for each and every redlight which turns my 1.5 mile drive to work every morning into a 10 minute drive. Just curious how others are doing.

have you tried slowing early for the red, then be rolling as it turns green?
Most systems are timed for 1-2 mph over the posted speed limit- go figure~
If you can catch one green you can determine the speed to catch all of them
Also- racing to the next light will put it on the red cyle,
some normal form of accelleration is used to determine light timing

I have a 7 mile one-way commute and the MPH is almost always 25-26MPH. Half the commute is on 50mph surface streets and the other half is freeway, but traffic lights are the killer. My highest ever MID MPH reading was 71MPH for 164 miles a couple years ago- haven't come close since.

26 mph, the traffic lights here are also poorly programmed. There are 2 that will turn green and if you're 1/4 mile you think you'll be good but they then instantly go to yellow and then red. It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Checked when I got home today and my average speed is still around 17mph. I guess that's part of the reason for my 13mpg.
There was a stretch of lights that I could catch on the way to school many years ago that I could hit all 7 lights on green but not any more. I know they have engineers dedicated to traffic light timing so the only thing I can think of is they're timed to stop traffic on purpose. More fuel sales?

I have about 12 lights door-to-door from home to work. Perhaps once a year, I can drive the entire 7 miles on all green lights! It's a very rare occasion and I know I'll have a great day in the office when this happens. In that situation, avg speed will be 50mph instead of 24-25mph.
Usually I'm pretty content just getting through 1/2 the lights on green and especially the light off the freeway that last 5 minutes when it's Red.

24 MPG and 28MPH
PR is 100 miles (west to east) x 35 miles (north to south)
And it takes you 2 - 3 hours to go from one side to the other.. So you can imagine the twisting roads and the amount of stop lights..
Daily commute from home to work should be around 55-60 miles..
Oh and I'm getting around 320-340 miles off the tank..

It honestly looks like the average mph and mpg are directly related. I was getting 13mpg when it was at 16mph. I added racegas and along with the average going up by 1mph, the mpg went up by a bit.
I guess it's not just the car, it's the redlight system here.

There was a 3G TL MPG thread back in early July, below is a table of my speed category with mileage. It looks like some of the above postings are jiving with this:
MID AVG MPH = 74; MID MPG = n/a;ACTUAL MPG = 27.6
MID AVG MPH = 70; MID MPG = 31;ACTUAL MPG = 31.3
MID AVG MPH = 52; MID MPG = 29;ACTUAL MPG = 28.8
MID AVG MPH = 44; MID MPG = n/a;ACTUAL MPG = 26.1
MID AVG MPH = 30; MID MPG = 22; ACTUAL MPG = 22.2
MID AVG MPH = 25; MID MPG = 19; ACTUAL MPG = 19.5
^ yep,TylerT I'll have to make another meet- it was 2 years ago since I went to a meet at Torrey Pines

Thanks so much guys. This provides tons of info and maybe there isn't much wrong with my car, looks like others dip just about as low as mine as the mph gets down.

Pineapple of DOOM!!!!
Mine reads 24MPG and 32MPH. I drive all highway going to and from work... 45 miles there and back. Its a V6, its not going to be great gas mileage but better than a V8

you should call your city traffic engineer- see phone book of city offices
they can tell you what the lights are set to- there has to be a formula that allows you to just catch the start of a green and get them all at a set speed

Mine use to be great like 28 + MPG but don't remember average MPH [ lately it will be like 60 + cause of a lot of highway]
but mine has sucked recently with the new exhaust. Got it on in the summer.
MPG is like 21 and only getting like 320- 350 a tank.
How many of you have exhaust mods?

I agree, I may make the phone call. When I was in highschool there was a stretch of road that had 11 redlights over 5 miles. With rare exception we always made every green. Even that stretch has changed. It's gotten so bad that on the little intersections I treat them like stop signs. I stop, look both ways, and go. I just don't have the time or gas to stop and wait 2 minutes every half mile with no cars around.

I hate cars,
You hit the nail on the head here. Mpg is very much dependant on the avg mph. Plus, it is also very much dependant on the frequency of start-ups. When the car is started-up, the mpg takes a huge, huge hit.
For example. My wife's commute involves both. Many red lights down roads with a 35 mph speed limit. Plus she makes many stops too. Leave home, stop at church, to work, (at lunch) to church just a few blocks away, back to work just few blocks, leave work, stop at store.... pitiful mpg.

I believe I'm in the mid 20's, mostly combined with city and highway. On highways I usually stick to 65mph, at most 70-75. Cities, I usually stay with the flow of traffic.
