LaCostaRacer you seem to have this MPG stuff down to a science. You and IHC are excellent about this subject

I have 145,000 miles on my 2007 tl-s. Been getting 25-28 mpg on average per tank so far, with about 60/40 highway/city driving.

I track my MPG using this app on my phone, you just put in the miles traveled, cost of fuel and volume of fill, it does the rest.

On straight highway I have been getting about 33-35 mpg.

The whole average speed thing does not properly take into account techniques like P&G and EOC. And then theres this...

It trashes my MPGs and is generally towed at high speeds.

Why wouldn't it? The odo still counts the miles. The speedo still works. The ECU knows precisely how much fuel is or is not being injected. When I go down the grapevine which is 30 miles of downhill, 5 minutes with my foot completely off the gas at 80mph, the miles to empty start counting up instead of down because the injectors are off, the car is using zero fuel but it's going 80mph. It still works, even for the fuel economy retards what would rather trash other systems of the car to save a couple bucks at the pump.

Yes obviously if you're towing, the engine is pulling more weight and there is a hit on aerodynamics too. Our Pilot usually drops about 5MPG or more towing our tent trailer. I really doubt a jetski sucks too much perhaps 2 MPG?

I don't really divide by exactly 13.3 -- I only mentioned 13.3 as a rough number that is close to reality. Of course I divide by the number of gallons that I obtain during a FULL fill up. So, again, math skills are not spotty here.

One more thing before I put this thing to rest: freeway driving followed by severe stop-and-go where hot-footing occurs is definitely going to cause even worse mileage. How many times have we each been stuck in traffic and mashed the pedal causing a rev in the engine, but the car going only slightly ahead before you have to slam on the brakes? I know I'm guilty of this sometimes.

I think it's kind of interesting to have such faith in a fuel light coming on at 13.3 gallons. It seems like if the MID was so inaccurate as some people have claimed over the years that the fuel light would be just as bad because the fuel tank level sensor is used for both operations?

Anyway, I agree that our individual driving habits will definitely very and cause some variance in our MPG.

All I can say is Acura definitely calibrated the MID for my driving style: fast but also smooth and consistent at top speed. I like to gun it at onramps or stop signs but it's otherwise smooth once underway with lots of coasting to red lights when they are at a distance.
