What triggers the headlights on with the remote?
Hey guys....usually I just leave my lights on 24/7. 19 out of 20 times when I hit unlock, the lights turn on. However, every once in a while they won't come on. I have tried to figure out what it is....I've tried messing with the interior light setting, also thought at one point it was only when the parking brake was on, but it wasn't. It's totally a mystery to me. Anyone know?

The cabin light switch on the top by the homelink controls. The switch should be clicked to the left side. However I found that by doing this, your interior lights do not come on when you press unlock or open the doors. What I don't like is that the light turns off after a very brief period of time after you press the unlock button. So you should press unlock when you're almost at the door, or else it'll shut off then turn back on after you open the doors.

The switch has to be in the center position for the lights to be activated by opening a door or using the remote:

You can program the length the lights stay on for 5, 15, or 30 seconds. Sounds like yours are set for only 5 secs:

YUP. Also OP, when you hit unlock, and they don't come on, but come on when you open the doors is because you never locked it. If the doors are locked, 100% of the time the lights will come on if the light switch is on the "ON" position. Hope that makes sense.

The alarm has to be set before you unlock, before the headlights will come on. Hince they shut off when you set the alarm with your fob and you hear the beep. With the alarm enabled, and you unlock with the fob, the headlights come on. IMO you're just locking the car with the fob at times, instead of setting the alarm with the fob.

If you lock the car with the FOB, the alarm is indeed set (armed 15 secs after lock). You can't separately lock the car without arming the alarm, it's all one action with a single press of the FOB. The only thing that is accomplished by pressing the FOB twice is that you get aural confirmation (the beep).
The alarm will not set if any door, the hood, or the trunk is indicating open. If the red light doesn't start flashing, then the alarm did not arm. If this happens, then it's possible you have an intermittent bad door, hood, or trunk switch preventing the alarm from arming. An open trunk or door will show up on the MID. Hood will not.

Leaving your hids on all the time, I say nay nay...
Why nay nay? You are reducing the life of your bulbs (lumens/kelvins), killing your transformers and of course robbing your car of a perfect crank every time (if you have stock battery)... just mine unimportant
