What should a 105k service cost?

Hi guys,

This is my first post, so apologies if I leave anything important out. I drive an '04 Acura TL that's at ~102.5k miles. I just emailed the shop I usually go to and they gave me the following quote:

~ Minor service at 105k = $95
~ Timing belt package (replacement of timing belt, idler, tensioner, hydraulic tensioner adjuster, water pump, coolant and drive belts) = $900
~ Spark plug replacement = $150
~ Valve adjustment = $500

TOTAL = $1645

I've had my car serviced at this shop a few times and I thought they were pretty fair, but this seems a little steep. Do you guys know if I'm getting fleeced? Thanks!

-Ray

Some members on here report only having to pay around $700 for the servicing, but I think anything around $1,000 or so is normal. Not at a dealer, of course.

Hmmm, this place is an independent shop, not a dealership. @MarcoNorthPolo does the $1,000 figure include the valve adjustment as well?

@Sbarbee54 does your shop happen to be around Mountain View?

That's way to much Imo. I can get all that done and PnP heads installed for that price.

I'm actually going to do that probably by the end of summer. Everything you mentioned plus Ported and polished heads installed for roughly 1500. If you live near va, it may be worth the drive.

Unfortunately, that would be quite a drive since I live in Northern California. Thanks for the info though! Helps me gauge where I stand...

Keep in mind the installation for the 105k maintenance is free since it all has to come off for the heads anyway. I simply have to buy the 200 kit when I get heads put on.

No roseville ca. They do all pullys on the list water pump, timing belt all other belts, plus, valve adjustment, tranny fluid change, cabin filter change, full coolant flush.

I thought about port and polish when I get mine done. As I was wondering how much that would run while I they had them off

I don't know that it includes the valve adjustment, it would be up to the shop I guess. In any case, the $500 they quoted you for a valve adjustment seems too high.

Got quoted 925 for the job at a dealership. But tensioners or pulleys not replaced, unless they need to be.

get a quote from a dealership just for kicks.

1600 sounds high for an indy shop.

As donkey said, don't do the valve adjustment. It's rarely needed. $1100 without the valve adjustment seems OK but not a steal. And what does "minor service" include? I had everything you listed done except the valve adjustment and tensioner for about $700. This included air and cabin filters.

Now that's probably on the low end and the cost if living where I'm at is dirt cheap. Depends on what city you live in but I'd say you'll end up paying between 700 on the low end and $2000 on the high end depending on how much the dealership milks you. Call around for quotes from any reputable indy shop and take the lowest bid! Good luck!

This is too far for you to drive to. I got the TB service (TB, water pump $ TB adjuster), PS fluid, spark plugs replaced, thermostat replaced, synthetic oil change and valves adjusted at Anderson Honda in Cockeysville, MD, for $1408.

I'll call around since the consensus is ~$1,650 is too high. Thanks everyone for the input!

I paid like $590 for the whole timing belt/water pump ordeal. Thats parts & Labor. Then I paid $200 for Valve adjustment & $40 for the spark plugs. So $830 total.
