what range are you getting on a full tank?

What kind of distance are you guys getting on a full tank of fuel? 400 miles? What kind of driving are you doing (i.e. city/highway - 50/50, etc)?

Also, do these cars require premium (91 or higher octane), or can they run fine with 87?

I have a G coupe, and I am considering selling it for one of these. Right now I get about 600km on 62L of fuel (~372miles on ~16.38 gal) with 91 octane, which I think is terrible. I do 50/50 highway/city driving, and I do not drive too hard.

^ If you think those numbers are terrible then stay away from TL-S

And welcome to Acurazine....

Welcome.
I'm getting around 300+ miles a tank. Granted I'm only filling up around 13 gallons and drive a mix of 50/50 city/highway. 91 octane is required, less in short intervals.

i get shy of 400 miles, give or take. and the TL requires premium. it will run on 87, but both the car and your wallet will not like it.

the range on my TLS says 385 after I fill up 91 octane. I usually get between 300-310 when I do 95% city and 5% highway. When I do more highway driving I usually average 330-350 ( thats like 50% highway)

So the stock timing is setup to run with 91 octane, correct? Otherwise I will run into knock sensor issues (because of retardation of the timing)?

Looks like Acuras require 91 octane whiles their Honda brethern require only 87 octane.

If mileage is my concern, it looks like I may need to start shopping for a TSX instead.

My main reason for "considering" the switch from G coupe to Acura (TL or maybe TSX) is because I live in the north east where the winters are rough, and FWD is definitely a bonus over RWD. I love my car, I love RWD, but I hate winters/winterbeaters.

Wow the mileage numbers are definitely around the same as my G coupe.

What is the fuel tank size on these cars? 17.1 gal? my G uses a 75L tank which is around 19.75 GAL

Also what exactly makes a Type S much worse on gas than a regular TL? I understand it has more HP...does it use a larger motor (the 3.5?).

I get around 310-350 miles from my 06 with about 60% hwy. If I do mostly city, I'm lucky to get 270 miles. I am a bit heavy-footed as well.
And yes - type S used 3.5L motor whereas base TL uses a 3.2L.

OK so I'm suburban driving 95% of the time in my TL-S. But you must be pretty darned aggressive on the pedal to get that low of an MPG number.

I consistantly get 27-28 suburban street MPG, and 31-32 Highway MPG when I actually do get to drive for any distance. RANGE consistantly well over 400 miles

06 and I get 23-26 mph or about 315 miles per tankful (only putting in around 13 gallons on the fill) and I have only used 87 octane (about 5 tank fulls since I bought her) You think my MPG will increase with 91? I've heard that there is really no difference between 89 and 91. I know they don't put the cleaners and detergents in the 87 that's in the 89 and 91. They help clean the fuel injection system. I wass planning on running 89 every 5th tank or so...

[according to the computer]

Depending on how I drive.... I get about ... I don't know. Have to check Eric's thread about the gas-game.

The computer on the tl is horrible. It will tell you miles to empty based on about 14 gallons of fuel when the car holds 17. So if you want to get a good estimate you can only go off of mpg not the cruise range. I have a 08 tl-s and I drive fairly spirited 70/30 highway/city. My car usually gets around 25mpg.

My biggest complaint so far with the tl is the trip computer telling me I am out of gas with 3 gallons of fuel left. It's like having a 14 gallon tank. I wish it could be recalibrated somehow.

When i first started reading this thread I was getting scared. I average about 240-260 miles a tank out of 13 gallons. But then i got to my fellow tri-state people and i see they get the same. But what can we do to get better mileage??? Sea foam???

I generally make it about 280 miles or thereabouts doing all city driving, although that number tends to be slightly higher during August because the traffic is comparatively light in the DC area at this time of year with Congress being in recess.

I've gone as far as 455 miles doing all highway driving (I set that personal record on July 31 driving home from Maine, averaged 60 mph with the cruise control set at 65 mph for most of the run). Based on the amount of fuel I put in, I probably could have stretched that to 480 or 490, but I was in a fairly rural area of Pennsylvania and so didn't want to take chances.

Those numbers are on an '04 TL with the 6MT.

The "Miles to Empty" gauge is an ESTIMATE, and that's why it says "0" when you still have two to three gallons of gas (7 to 10 litres) remaining. Consider what it is and you'll understand why it can only be an estimate at best. Suppose you're sailing along averaging 31 mpg and you'd likely be able to go 100 miles on the remaining fuel, but you slam into a colossal stand-still traffic jam. If you don't turn off your car, you'll be averaging 0 mpg whilst sitting still and your range will drop accordingly. Acura recognizes that there are some extremely stupid people who will treat the "Miles to Empty" gauge as gospel, so if it were based on when you'd actually run out of fuel you'd have some idiots who would see "20 miles to empty" yet run out of gas prior to the "0" coming on. By having "0" come on early, Acura/Honda save themselves the cost of frivolous litigation brought by these types of stupid people.

As far as the 87 octane question, search the forum. There have been umpteen threads about that issue over the years. I had to splash in 7 litres ($10) of 87 octane last month in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia, because I was running out of gas and there was only one station anywhere in the Louisbourg area and they sold ONLY regular. So I put in the minimum I needed to get me back to Sydney the next day, where I knew there was a Petro-Canada that sold all grades. I didn't want to be going over the mountains on the Cabot Trail running regular, especially if I needed to pass a slow-moving RV. The car did run fine on the 87 octane for the short distance I drove it, but then there were no significant hills and I generally had the cruise control set at about 80 km/h.

On long trips, when I manage to keep the speed down, I pull over 450. When speeding it drops to roughly 415. Happy with that.

Mine get's about the same as yours@ 65mph,and it's only got about 13k on the clock, plus I keep it on cruise most of the time, and don't floor it from a standing start! and average about 30 to 31 MPG on the MID

I get about 340 miles in my type-s before the light comes on. My MID says 22 mpg but it's close to 22.5. That is mixed city/highway with more city. On the highway I get 30 mpg.

Buy a new super hybrid TL?

I normally get between 400-500 now that I slowed down but I did break the 500 level once.

Talking

Im getting around 350 on 50/50 city/highway driving.

I also use 87.

And to so far have had no issues concerning performance, power, or anything going bad prematurely with the engine.

Some people feel different but this is my experience. I usually run a tank of prem once a month just to clean things out.

i just did a 475 mile ride and 441 of it was on one tank before it said that i had zero miles left until empty. It was all highway at an average of 70mph.

Quick Reply: what range are you getting on a full tank?
