Why would down payment and credit score affect price of the car?

The 12k that you have for a down payment and your decent credit score might give you some more ammo to negotiate. I put down a substantial amount on mine and have a similar credit score and it helped me knock over 3k off the price of my 08 base. The car was less than a year old when I bought it and the 3G was still selling really well then so that may have contributed. I think You should be able to get the price down some. Which dealer is it, kerny mesa or the one down by National city?

With 12k down you can definitely negotiate a lower price, but its a type S. But most
of all don't show weakness.

12k down and good credit score, definitely negotiate for lowering the price. If anything your just going to have a low monthly.

From OC to SD is quite a drive call dealership ask specifically for the finance manager and complete most of the negotiations over the phone. Im thinking $22K out the door sounds like a good deal. Make sure that you get a carfax and do your research on the dealership if its not a major dealer. Good luck

Private sellers like cash buyers. Dealers prefer financing, that is how they make the most of the money.

Agreed. I drove down to Kentucky and paid cash for my typeS to a private seller. And the op should be looking to pay a little over $20k

Like Acura-OC said above, I fail to see what credit score and the down payment amount has anything to do with how much wiggle room they have on that car. Just because someone has a good down payment and credit score doesn't mean all of a sudden that dealership has much more room to work with. IMO that is irrelevant information.
An 08 with somewhat low mileage from a dealership will probably be around 22-25k depending on its condition and history.

I bought my 08 tl-s with 41k miles for 22k out the door with 5k down. This was in Austin TX Feb 2012, you should be able to drive them down more. I also have great credit score

kind of off topic, but if you do end up driving down to san diego to check out the car, you should go try Phil's BBQ. their beef ribs are so bomb lol.

I paid 20,500$ last May for my 07 Type S 6MT with 44k miles on it private party. That price is right on the money for the year and age. I would still haggle with them and tell them 21k for it and have them respond.

I'd either negotiate price before going there or never tell them how far you had to travel to get there.
