What gas mileage are you getting?
I just purchased a 04 TL, Auto w/ Nav. It has 53000.
I am getting and average of 19 mpg. Now that is what the hud reads, and what I calculate with the mileage and gallons of fuel consumption. I was just curious as to what yall are getting, I read on hear of some people getting alot more.

I have an '04 manual TL. Around town and work commute averages 24.5 MPG (with my current tires) and a high of 27.98 in the summer months. On the road in the summer with the A/C on and packed for vacation, I have gotten 33.94 (September of '05), and now average a little over 32 with my current tires under the same conditions.

There are a number of gas mileage threads on the forum, but the TL's fuel economy is fairly sensitive to stop-and-go driving. In regular city streets with stoplights, 18-21 mpg per tank is fairly normal. 90% cruising on the freeway @60-80 mph, I've gotten 28 mpg for a tank (well, 32 mpg until some city driving on those tanks).
You can re-set the MID so that it starts calculating from the re-set until the next re-set.

Southernboy, what tires do you have? I never knew tire type could have such a big impact on MPG. I'm ready to pull the trigger on a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS.

Man of God.....
I average 26mpg. Thats over 3000 miles of average. I have hit and held 39mpg for over 50miles. I was trying though. It was at 55mph and a light foot. Just my 2 cents....

I think my next set will be the Continental ProContacts in their V rating . These are Grand Touring tires and are 2 pounds lighter and 2/10" shorter in diameter. These two factors will increase throttle response ever so slightly. Also they should be quieter and better highway tires.. they seem to get very good marks.

Oil - Mobil 1
Oil filter - Mobil 1 M1-104
Air filter - Factory is fine, I am currently using a Purolator ( # A25585)
Trans fluid - GM Synchromesh Friction Modified (# 12377916)
You should also use Chevron Fuel System Cleaner every 10000 miles, or more often if you tend to use off-brands of fuel (there are other high-quality cleaners, too but Chevron is one of the best and is easy to find).
Make sure your tire pressure is up to spec. For '04's, it's 35 in front, 32 in the rear and I'ms sure the same holds true for '05 and '06 manuals (these tire pressures are for manual cars only).
Do not lug or tax your engine, but use higher gears when you can. Example: into 4th by 30 MPH, 5th by 40 MPH, and 60th by 55 MPH. Again do not lug your engine.
Other that this, drive sensibly and easily and anticipate traffic patterns and conditions, such as backups, lights, and speed.
Good luck.

I thought these "high tech," 24 valve sixes were efficient?

They are efficient.. even if it's 19mpg it's still not polluting as much out the back!

This Acura TL-S engine is certainly more "refined" than those GM engines, but the hard facts I'm discussing are quite real.

I have an 06 auto and always get over 30mpg on the highway - typically 32 or 33mpg. I try to always run Shell high test gas (I just like the product and a station is close to my home). I don't take any readings for overall mileage since I live in the Washington DC area and the readings would be skewed from sitting in traffic. It's all stock and the only change I have is Mobil 1 oil (5-20) and Mobil 1 oil filter.

I remember my old 00TL would run around 30 MPG allover (mostly highway though) ... so I'm pretty confident the type-s will improve her MPG once it's fully broken in ...
so your reading is a bit to the low side, maybe leadfoot a few times too many? LOL

wow, makes me wonder about my car now.
I live in Queens, NY
Running conti extreme contact tires, brand new
i average 14-15 city/24 hwy.
Would something be wrong?
I'm a pretty light footed driver.
rarely take it over 3000rpm.

Jinro, I average about the same in my '07 TLS: 16 in town and 25 on the highway. But most of my driving is in town to and from work, about 5 miles each way with lots of lights.

The fliter looked alittle clogged, I am thinking of replacing it, what do you guys think about the K&N Drop in one, or should I stick with OEM? Also what do you think about Royal Purple oil??

Averaged 31 miles per gallon all highway down to Virginia. Last fill-up the car returned 27.5 mpg which was 80% highway/20% city, with a lot of the driving climbing the mountains in Virginia (Skyline Drive).
Car has a little less than 1k miles on the odometer, clearly expect to see mid-30's on the highway when engine is fully broken in.

When I first got my TL in February, I was getting 25 mpg on the MID for a full tank of gas. My city/highway driving was split about 40/60. Now that it's broken in, I'm getting 28 mpg, and that's with the a/c running. Once the fall hits, I hope to get 30.
Also, the f'n idiot at the gas station filled my car up with regular gas the other day. :angryfire I told him twice, "fill it up, premium". He repeated it back to me, and he still put in regular. I still have 1/4 tank to go, and I'm getting 24 mpg. English as a 2nd language should really be enforced.

I’ve accumulated about 22K miles and averaged 31 MPG on 20/80 mix of city/hwy driving since the purchase in July 06…29-30 MPG during the break-in period/winter months (NY)…31-34 MPG since the weather turned.
