what does "TL" stand for?
#2
we've been through this and there are a few threads about this already(i am sure the 1st and 2nd gen has threads as well). but it doesn't stand for anything. we've come up with all sorts of acronyms but if it did stand for something then so would tsx, rsx, mdx, rl, nsx and soon to be rdx. what possibly can those vehicles with the "x" in them stand for. so here is my explanation from what i have read in some publication. acura uses these naming conventions strictly for North America to set the class status of a vehicle. traditionally a higher number indicates a more expensive car like in bmw's case. and mercedes uses alpha-numeric combinations to indicate the class of the car. i personally think acura is trying to adopt the same approach in its attempt to market it's cars here. But because acura does not offer different engine options for each of its cars it does not have a mixture of alpha-numerics and just alphas. we all know that the same cars acura offers here, in japan all have names associated to them. however americans in general when buying a luxury car are not comfortable with a regular name associated to it. besides the s2000 all other hondas sold here have a regular name given to the car. but to compete with the european luxury brands who strictly use this alpha-numeric nomenclature for their cars honda has to use this for their acura line up here.
