What Does TL Stand For?
I took a look at the Acura site and wasn't able to find what the letters TL stand for.
anyone know?
Here are some of my thoughts or even suggestions:
Total Luxury

Tremendous Lines
The Leader

I made a post last night that was a bit sarcastic about TL standing for ''transmission lacking''. This morning when reading the post, I thought it a good idea explain my feelings about Acura.
If you look below you can see that I have 2 TLs a 2002 and a 2004. I guess that shows my real statement. I dont want to start ranting about the transmission problems in the past but to say, the TL is a special car and I trusted Acura enough to buy another despite the 2nd generation car problems. I would really like to see Acura make good on the transmisssions of the older cars and this will have a big bearing on my future car purchases. I will wait and see what happens with Acura and the "Great transmission debacle"...So, for me,TL stands for "till later".
Yes, Neuronbob, I would but a "Legend" in a heartbeat if they still made them. Really a classic car.

There have been other threads about this. Although the true meaning, if there even is one, is probably an Acura secret, most people have interpreted TL to mean Touring Luxury, with CL meaning Coupe Luxury. But I've never heard what people think the "R" would stand for in RL using this scheme. Real Luxury? That would be kind of stupid, I think. Road Luxury? And then there are the humorous examples...

Based on my car, I would say
TL = Terrible Leather
I have never had a new car where the leather is showing permanent imprint after 2 weeks. I've tried Lexol and it helps but isn't solving the problem. I'm planning to take my car to the dealer and complain (although I doubt anything will be done). If this is the "quality" Acura is going to, this will be last Honda (I've never not owned a Honda).

This is WAY off topic, but how many times have you used the Lexol? I think you need to give it a few applications. I was also disappointed with the leather, until the pro who details for me said he thought it was very good quality leather but poorly conditioned at the factory. He said it was some of the best leather he'd seen in a car at this price range, but that it needed LOTS of conditioning. He did two coats himself, one at the start of the detailing, and another several hours later when he'd finished the rest of the car. But he told me I would need to do several more myself. He happens to prefer Maguires but says Lexol is good, too. I've done a couple more coats with Maguires and now the leather is really starting to feel much richer, more supple, softer, and also looks much better.
So maybe, to get back on topic, TL = Thirsty Leather.

Thirsty Leather is the best one so far!
An Acura Customer Serivce guy who called me about the paper survey I filled out voluntarily admitted that the leather used in TL is "no good". This is my first leather interior, so I don't really know whether it is bad or good.

I recall official announcements from Acura back when the 1st gen. of each came out as follows:
TL = Total Luxury
RL = Real Luxury
I don't think they have fostered those names, and if you went to a dealership and asked a salesperson about it, most probably would not know what you are talking about. However, I am fairly certain that at one time these were in fact the official names for the above.

TL definition
The definition of TL is 'total loser'! It refers to the driver/owner of said automobile.
:clown:
Considering that a 2004 or 2005 model year TL will be my next automobile, I was being tongue-in-cheek.

The leadership of Acura does not ever now use this as an explanation, name or refer to it's origin for the reason that it might diminish their efforts to switch to Alpha-Numeric designations and appeal to American buyers

Or maybe the element, Thallium:
A soft, malleable, highly toxic metallic element, used in photocells, infrared detectors, low-melting glass, and formerly in rodent and ant poisons. Atomic number 81; atomic weight 204.38; melting point 303.5°C; boiling point 1,457°C; specific gravity 11.85; valence 1, 3.

if TL, CL, RL stood for something, then all their models would also stands as well.
So let me ask you this...what does RSX, MDX, TSX stand for??? of course is harder to come up with something because of the X, just like infiniti and lexus because they have numbers...
