Beside as a garage opener, what else does everybody use Homelink for? Lights? Gates? Anything else? How did you get the lights to communicate with the Homelink?

For lights, the company that makes Homelink has a receiver kit that is compatible with X-10 lighting controls. You can get it here:

I only use mine for garage but my granddad uses his to open the gate to his neighborhood.

I use Homelink to control the garage lights but it can control whatever device I want using X-10 and a HA program. Our automatic garage door opener turns on a small light but it goes out after a few minutes and can leave you in the dark. This allows me to turn on the garage lights if I need it.

I did not have to buy a receiver from Homelink for X-10. I use mine with a W800RF32 receiver and a computer to decode the data stream with a HA program. As I recall the Homelink transmitter in the car is programmable so you should be able to use it with a simple and cheap X-10 receiver. I'll try it out and get back to the group.

There is a security gate to enter my condo complex. I use a white card (about the size of a credit card) to get in. Can I program my HomeLink to open the gate? If so, how?
